Structured Finance Associate/Senior Commercial Credit Analyst

Capital One's Financial Institutions Group (FIG) has a need for an Underwriting Associate/Analyst to join its Lender Finance / Securitization team. The incumbent will assist in the structuring, underwriting and closing of recourse and non-recourse loan opportunities with non-bank financial institutions. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, transaction due diligence, collateral analysis, cash flow modeling, credit approval, legal documentation review, and closing. The individual will primarily underwrite new transactions, as well as assist in the restructuring of existing transactions, and consult with team members to manage and monitor portfolio accounts. The underwriter will also conduct company, industry, and product research.

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Draft and present pre-screen memos, credit approval memos, collateral analysis, cash flow modeling, and risk rating assessment for recourse and non-recourse loans to non-bank financial institutions.
  • Evaluate potential transactions to determine the quality of lending opportunities and appropriate transaction structure to maximize return on investment.
  • Identify specific merits, risks and mitigants for each transaction.
  • Perform due diligence including industry, company and financial analysis.
  • Perform internal deal screening, risk analysis, and pricing analysis and assist with the internal credit approval process.
  • Evaluate risk/return dynamics for proposed transactions.
  • Prepare internal memoranda for review and approval of new transactions.
  • Research ABS/CLO, capital markets, industry and company information and produce market commentary.
  • Maintain detailed financial models; develop sensitivity analysis around key economic drivers.
  • Partner with Relationship Managers and Portfolio Managers to cultivate excellent client relationships.
  • Exhibit a sense of urgency towards meeting client requests while also meeting acceptable risk parameters.
  • Maintain all operational aspects of a transaction from deal initiation to close.

Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree or Military Experience.
  • At least 2 years of capital markets experience or at least 2 years of commercial banking experience or at least 2 years of structured credit experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Progress towards the CFA Designation.
  • FINRA Series 7, 79 and 63 licenses.
  • Strong analytical and modeling skills.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Experience in Corporate Finance, Commercial or Investment Banking, Equity/Fixed Income Research and/or Rating Agency analysis.
  • Experience in both recourse and non-recourse lending.
  • Strong credit and risk management skills.
  • Able to work in a team environment, while interacting with multiple teams and multiple deals concurrently.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Detail oriented.
  • Familiarity with financial products available to financial institutions, including cash flow lending, bond issuance, secured recourse lending, non-recourse lending (i.e. securitization), mezzanine credit, hedging.
