Sr. Risk Associate - Business Risk Office

As a Senior Associate in Capital One's Commercial Business Risk Office (CBRO) you'll be a part of the team that leads operational risk management for the Commercial Bank. Departmental functions include: policies and procedures, training and awareness, operational risk framework, process identification and standards, control monitoring and testing, operational risk reporting, issue and event management, business continuity management, information security, third party management, risk identification, assessment, mitigation and reporting. The CBRO team interacts with internal and external partners for Audit and credit reviews, regulatory exams and compliance assessments and is the point of contact for all second line operational risk management including business continuity, third party management, information security, access management, model governance, SOX and Basel II readiness.

As a Senior Associate on the CBRO Coverage Team, your role will require excellent communication and interpersonal skills, the ability to work autonomously, the ability to identify areas of opportunity, and a desire to help the Commercial Bank businesses prosper while also adequately managing operational risk.


  • Develop and support non-credit risk reporting processes for internal customers across the Commercial Bank (including reports developed for executive level and line of businesses)
  • Identify areas where the Commercial Business Risk Office has opportunities to improve in efficiency/process automation and implement solutions
  • Monitor and audit the quality of customer and non-customer data housed in several systems of record
  • Create dashboards, graphs and visualizations of data using a variety of tools (including Tableau and Grafana)

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • At least 1 year of experience in financial services

Preferred Qualifications
  • At least 1 year of experience in SQL
  • At least 1 year of experience in Python (including triage of code problems and other data related issues)
  • At least 2 Years of experience in Commercial Banking or at a consulting firm in analytics
  • At least 4 years of proficient experience creating and maintaining information in PowerPoint, Excel and Word
  • Excellent communication skills, knows when to escalate issues to management
  • Able to tailor work product/presentations to the audience; Impeccable attention to detail
  • Visualize a wide variety of data in creative ways
  • Analytical thinker and able to draw meaningful conclusions from data (root cause)
  • Ability to translate business requirements into technical specification
  • Worked in an Agile environment
  • Collaborative, team player
