Sr. Manager, Java

As a Sr. Manager, Software Engineering you will be accountable for delivery of a portion of a platform, or project (Agile team) initiative. You will also be responsible for leading the team and helping associates manage their career. Additionally, you will be responsible for leading the technology leadership team. This role is part of building large scale reliable applications that impact the way that Capital One does business. You will participate in detailed technical design, development and implementation of applications using existing and emerging technology platforms. Working within an Agile environment, you will actively participate in story planning and detailed daily standups, while providing input for architectural design decisions, and developing code to meet story acceptance criteria. You will have the opportunity to continuously develop technical knowledge and skills on multiple platforms, and educate team members (including BSAs, Scrum Masters and Product Owners) on the capabilities and constraints of technologies.

General Responsibilities:

  • Provide functional, technical and process leadership for team(s) delivering on given initiatives
  • Builds strong partnerships with teams / organizations as needed to deliver on initiatives
  • Responsible for leading technology leadership team
  • Responsible for leading team and helping associates manage their career
  • Support multiple concurrent efforts and deliver in a fast-paced dynamic environment
  • Handles multiple functions / roles for the projects / Agile teams
  • Has mastery over multiple business areas
  • Handles High Complexity, High Ambiguity tasks
  • Communicate effectively with technical and business resources as well as upper management
  • Foundational understanding and experience with Agile, Scrum and/or SAFe methodologies

Basic Qualifications:

At least 10 Years of experience in Application development

At least 5 Years of experience in Java, J2EE, Spring, JMS

At least 5 Years of experience as a Technical Lead

At least 1 Year experience working with Big Data Technologies such as Apache Storm, Apache APEX or Hadoop

At least 1 Year of experience with Cloud Technologies such as Amazon Web Services.

Preferred Qualifications:

Master's Degree in Computer Science or Engineering

13+ Years of experience in Application development

8+ Years of experience in Java, J2EE and Spring technologies

8+ Years of experience as a Technical Lead

2+ years of AWS Cloud experience
