Sr. Manager - Credit Portfolio Management & Reporting - Commercial Credit Risk & Analytics

Job Description

The position is for a Senior Manager in the Credit Portfolio Management & Reporting department, supporting the Commercial Credit Risk & Analytics (CR&A) function. The Credit Portfolio Management & Reporting team is responsible for creating, monitoring and delivering credit analysis and research surrounding syndicated loans and high yield bonds for Commercial and Industrial portfolio of Capital One Commercial Bank. The group's responsibilities include assessing the creditworthiness of the Bank's credit portfolio risk, evaluating portfolio performance, and conducting portfolio reviews. In addition, the team will perform reviews of borrowers to assess the potential for deterioration of credit conditions in response to adverse news, economic, market or regulatory events. The position will interact with the leadership of CR&A, Senior Credit Officers, Underwriting and the Lines of Business.

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to :

-Managing risk: Help drive improvements in credit performance and risk models by connecting risk triggers to drivers of future business and credit trends.Work with quantitative risk team by applying subject matter expertise to compare/contrast financial projections to prior economic cycles. Incorporate analytical conclusions to enhance risk models, and test hypotheses using rigorous monitoring and assessment.

-Execution: Take ownership of project and deliverables, drive findings and challenge the thinking of CR&A and the Line of Business and incorporate disruptive/innovative industry developments.

-Leadership: Designing and coordinating, regular, ad-hoc and special analytical market assessments, market analyses, and evaluation of the risks and implications to COF's business plan and loan portfolio. Research projects, present and defend conclusions to relevant stakeholders.

-Collaborate: Help research and execute corporate and departmental cross functional initiatives supporting strategic plan and portfolio growth. Able to work in consensus driven organization and use strong follow-up and problem-solving skills to satisfy multiple constituencies.

-Self-motivated: being self-directed and able to prioritize and handle multiple assignments simultaneously. Being comfortable with uncertainty and able to conceptualize and execute projects with limited information.

-Partnership: Work closely with colleagues across Risk, Compliance, Underwriting, and the Line of Business.

The desired experience and skill set for the ideal candidate include :

-Strategic & analytic orientation: Experience with analyzing a company's historic and current financial condition; its business drivers - product and services, sales and marketing strategies, supply chain, etc.; strategic industry dynamics and evaluation of management capabilities.

-Strong credit or equity background with ability to perform financial statement analysis; ratio analysis; assessment of cash flows, capital structure, collateral, covenants and other credit conditions.

-A solid understanding of economics and the ability to apply current domestic and global trends to company and industry analysis as well as portfolio management.

Ability to understand quantitative, analytical tools as well as the assumptions behind them and their role in decision making.

-Strong business judgment, ability to synthesize complex, esoteric ideas into clear, decisive, and actionable recommendations. Ability to lead by example with good judgment and integrity.

-Results oriented: display an intense focus on achieving both short and long-term goals. Able to manage projects and drive tangible results.

-Strong written and verbal communication skills, experience preparing materials and communicating key factors underlying decisions to senior management and relevant stakeholders. Ability to convey a strong presence and gain confidence of senior management and colleagues.

-Successful track record of thriving in a fast paced, entrepreneurial and dynamic environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities :

-Proactively identify risk and reward characteristics of a Commercial Lending portfolio exceeding $90 Billion in exposure

-Maintain a forward-looking view of risk and opportunities incorporating internal and external single name credit risk estimates, internal and external market pricing data, industry research, macro data, etc.

-Develop and implement industry/company risk analyses to monitor portfolio level credit risk, identify cyclical/secular trends in the industry/portfolio/market and forecast possible outcomes. The emphasis is on identifying future risks and secular/disruptive industry changes.

-Develop summary findings and strategy presentations for senior management.

-Experience working in a collaborative environment as a strategic partner to other internal business units.

Basic Qualifications:

-Bachelor's degree OR Military experience

-At least 5 years of experience in credit or equity investment research, or at least 5 years in leveraged/high yield research, corporate banking or credit risk management

-At least 3 years of experience in managing projects

-At least 1 year of experience managing people

Preferred Qualifications:

-Master's in Business Administration (MBA) OR Master's degree in Finance

-6 years of experience in credit or equity investment research OR 6 years in leveraged/high yield research, corporate banking or credit risk management.

-4 years of experience in leading and executing projects

-2 years of experience managing people
