Sr. Associate - Deal Monitoring, Commercial Credit Risk

Capital One's Commercial Bank contains an approximately $110B (exposure) loan portfolio that has grown by virtue of several acquisitions. It is a Commercial Portfolio of Commercial & Industrial (C&I), Commercial Real Estate (CRE), and various specialty lending. The Dual Risk Rating (DRR) - Monitoring team is part of the Portfolio Analytics group within Commercial Credit Risk and Analytics (CR&A) and is responsible for performance monitoring, model impacts, and change management for Capital One Commercial portfolios.

The DRR - Monitoring team is standing up a new Deal Review function and seeking a risk specialist to provide credit research and analytical expertise in evaluating the deals that run through the models, with the ultimate goal to assess underlying usage and performance of our Dual Risk Rating models. The candidate will gain broad knowledge in commercial lending products and credit risk analytics. A successful candidate will have the ability to draw insights and trends of the commercial portfolio from deep-dive deal analysis, while leveraging smart queries and systematic methods to develop analytical reporting and model enhancement capability. The candidate will also partner with model developers, underwriters, credit officers, and other risk management functions. Our north star is to empower traditional credit research with data and AI, supported by in house quantitative experts.

The Deal Monitoring specialist will support user behavioral monitoring of DRR scorecard selection, inputs, and overrides, including but not limited to:

  • Analyze trends and underlying drivers in deal characteristics
  • Investigate and identify patterns in outliers
  • Formulate behavioral insights for model enhancements
  • Develop user behavior analytics and systematic controls
  • Explore machine learning and AI techniques to extrapolate credit insights
  • Conduct the ongoing user support forum driven by new model releases as well as changes in deployment environment

We are looking for candidates with the following profile:
  • Proficiency in commercial or corporate credit research
  • Knowledge of model based credit underwriting
  • Data/Tech savvy (e.g., SQL, R, Python, Excel Macro, MatLab)
  • Strong problem solving and analytical abilities
  • Curiosity, a hunger to learn, and a desire to challenge
  • Active listening and ability to find creative solutions

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree or military experience
  • At least 2 years in a commercial or corporate credit research role or at least 2 years in a credit due diligence role

Preferred Qualifications
  • At least 1 years of working with data analytics
  • Advanced education in technical disciplines
  • CFA or FRM certified
  • Proficiency in a programming language
  • At least 1 years working with machine learning techniques, e.g., natural language processing
  • At least 1 years of experience working with SQL or relational databases
  • At least 1 years working with Tableau, Qlik, or Shiny
