Software Engineering Manager - Data Enablement

As a Data Services Engineering Manager

We're looking for talented individuals and the experience below are only a guide to what we're looking for. If you don't have them all but think this role is for you, we'd really like to hear from you.

What you'll do:

  • Lead a cross-functional group of engineers to design, develop and integrate services for Data Scientists, Data Stewards and other interested parties.
  • Work alongside Engineering Managers in the US to utilise, influence and develop Enterprise services.
  • Coach your engineers on how to achieve their technical, business and personal goals.
  • Collaborate with product and quality engineering managers to refine and deliver features on the product roadmap.
  • Build platforms that are performant, reliable, scalable and secure.
  • Enhance the engineering and agile delivery processes with the team.

What we're looking for:
  • Experience in leading an engineering team to achieve business goals.
  • Deeply self-motivated with a hands-on approach to development and team management.
  • Excellent knowledge of programming languages such as Scala, Python, Go or similar.
  • A history of using distributed data platforms like EMR, Hadoop or Spark.
  • Able to compare and contrast various data-related formats such as Parquet or Avro.
  • Experience of various database technologies such as SQL, NoSQL and related query languages.
  • You are excited by the cloud and the opportunities that it brings.
  • Comfortable in reaching technical trade-offs between short-term team and long-term business needs.
  • You have a passion for recruiting and developing great engineering talent.
  • You are willing and excited to get into the guts of a completely data-driven, highly regulated industry with a lot of existing complexity.
  • A strong communicator and partner well across engineering to maximise inner-sourcing opportunities and reduce waste.
