Senior Manager, Process Manager: Enterprise. Data. Machine Learning. (EDML)

The Enterprise. Data. Machine Learning. Chief of Staff team is targeting a highly motivated professional with excellent organization, problem-solving, and communication skills. This individual will be able to develop and implement innovative solutions and processes to identify and mitigate potential risks to Capital One.

Role Summary

As a member of the EDML Chief of Staff team, you will leverage your agile and project management background and knowledge base in conjunction with your analytical, risk management, and program management skills to lead our EDML Cyber and Enterprise Tech Backlog Strategy (ETB). You will collaborate with Enterprise ETB Program teams, our EDML Operational Excellence and Risk/Compliance teams, EDML application teams, and partner with stakeholders across Tech and EDML organizations. You will help drive transformation and change to achieve the technical, well-managed objectives and reduce risk across the EDML organization.

Organizational Summary

The EDML organization delivers exceptional technology, products, services and processes to support our Data and Machine Learning ecosystems and our core functions to support our holistic operations for Capital One as an enterprise. EDML consists of 5 towers (Center for Machine Learning (C4ML), Risk Tech, Finance Tech, People Tech (which consists of HR Tech and Corp Tech) and Enterprise Data, as well as a Horizontal Chief of Staff office supporting all the towers. We have ~1,300 associates in our organization and are located across various geographies including: Richmond, NoVA, NYC, Boston, San Francisco, and Plano.

Responsibilities:
  • Promote strategic vision and execute tactical operations
  • Partner with the ETB Program Team, Cyber, and Tech Risk Management to proactively plan and communicate upcoming asks, ensure scope is defined and consumable by EDML technical teams, and monitor progress
  • Build relationships and collaborate with cross-functional key stakeholders to understand technical asks and processes and drive results
  • Identify ways to improve and streamline how ETB requests flow into our EDML technical teams
  • Leading and owning oversight of specific process improvement work and collaborating with teammates on larger SDLC initiatives
  • Leading the identification, analysis and review of proposed changes to the SDLC requirements framework
  • Leading and supporting the analysis efforts to evaluate key SDLC requirements to ensure each is well managed (effective, simple, automated, optimized for developer experience)
  • Partnering with teams to support and enable strategies for pipeline consolidation and developer experience
  • Building and utilizing a network of Tech contacts to identify, review and plan for efforts to address engineering team challenges and pain points
  • Providing subject matter expertise on processes when representing the department in projects and other meetings
  • Forming strong relationships with policy owners to identify areas of improvement, drive maturity of metrics and review changes that impact the SDLC and ensure proper design
  • Learning and grasping concepts supporting software engineering practices (e.g. automated testing, ATDD, Continuous Delivery, CI/CD, AWS, DevOps).
  • Identify opportunities and work with technical leaders, business stakeholders and key partners to embed risk management practices into our daily operations and business processes across the organization
  • Use technical knowledge and analytical skills to lead intent grooming, risk assessment and impact analysis
  • Lead (directly and indirectly) a team of software engineers / risk / project / process / management associates and contractors
  • Continue to stay abreast of new technologies to help support ongoing ETB requests and be able to support discussions with our EDML engineering teams
  • Implement a standard set of program management tools and templates to be used across programs, creating consistency and transparency for the engaged teams
  • Develop strong relationships with associates and leaders across EMDL to proactively identify risks and opportunities for horizontal thinking
  • Drive continuous improvement of the strategy with a customer back focus; understanding how to balance the needs of the team, the portfolio and the business while also aligning with industry best practices
  • Implement strategies to improve program reporting and analysis using data and technology with a focus on automation and standardization
  • Someone that can serve as a consultant for building relationships and managing interactions with our enterprise business partners, ESM, HR, Risk Office(s), Audit, Regulators, Finance, etc.


Basic Qualifications:
  • At least 5 years of experience in Process or Program Management
  • At least 3 years of People Management experience
  • At least 2 years of experience in an Agile environment


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Completed Bachelor's Degree or military experience
  • Master's Degree in Business Administration (MBA)
  • 2+ years of experience using Jira
  • 2+ years of experience using Tableau
  • 3+ years of experience driving organizational change and operational excellence
  • 3+ years of Risk Management or Compliance experience
  • 5+ years of People Management experience
  • 6+ years of experience in Agile practices
  • 6+ years of experience in Risk Management, Compliance, Audit, Data Engineering, or Technology Process Management
