Product Designer, Digital Commerce

Capital One's Digital Commerce Team is building safer, more convenient, and more confident ways to spend, and we're looking for strategic and detail-oriented product/feature designers to join us. If you're a highly-collaborative, proactive, and adaptable person who can work closely with the Digital Commerce design team, other designers across the company, and product management / engineering partners to shape Capital One's customer experience vision for digital commerce and payment, and pull it all together to deliver finely-tuned design solutions, you'll thrive here.

You'll be responsible for:

  • Building strong and collaborative relationships with product/feature partners, designers on other teams, and engineers.
  • Designing, prototyping, and iterating product/feature experiences:
    • Working with Digital Commerce Product Design leaders, synthesizing and applying design constraints to guide design solutions across one or more projects (based on foundational research evidence, user feedback, Capital One's design system, business needs, technical limitations and opportunities, etc.)
    • Explaining and advocating for design solutions with key partners and stakeholders
    • Reliably delivering thoroughly-documented product/feature experiences
    • Participating in user testing to gather insights for design iterations
    • Adopting and contributing new patterns to Capital One's design system

A typical day might look like (probably not all in one day, but you get the idea!):
  • Heads down time to design an experience based on the last round of user feedback
  • Documenting and sharing design decisions, and working with Product Design Manager to advocate for solutions
  • Meeting with a project partner to understand their perspective and work together on how to solve a design problem
  • Participating in a user research session to understand whether an experience is effective in meeting their needs
  • Meeting with engineers to discuss feasibility of design solutions or brainstorm together
  • Connecting with designers from other teams to brainstorm design solutions, share insights, and coordinate plans

Basic Qualifications
  • At least 3 years of product and product feature design experience
  • At least 3 years of experience with industry-standard digital design and collaboration tools
  • At least 2 years of experience with rapid prototyping, testing, and evidence-based iteration (at various levels of fidelity)
  • At least 2 years of experience with information architecture
  • At least 1 year of experience working with researchers to test design solutions, or at least 1 year of experience conducting research directly

Preferred Qualifications
  • 5+ years of digital product/feature design experience
  • 5+ years of experience with industry-standard digital design and collaboration tools (e.g. Sketch, Adobe Illustrator/Photoshop, InVision, etc.)
  • 3+ years of experience with rapid prototyping, testing, and evidence-based iteration (at various levels of fidelity)
  • At least 1 year of experience as primary leader on a project
  • Presentation and storytelling experience
  • User testing and research experience
