Principal Software Engineer-Team Lead

As an Enterprise Customer team, we are on a journey to build a centralized customer platform enabling operational and analytical capabilities for all Capital One businesses. We envision, create, deploy, and maintain critical customer applications by streamlining data across systems, applying state of the art machine learning, micro-service architecture, and beautiful visualizations in the cloud.

We are seeking a seasoned hands-on technical thought leader with a track record of delivering successful Cloud solutions integrating Data Management and Machine Learning components and technologies. You will have both technical and team leadership responsibilities.

As a Principal Software Engineer you will need to be a pragmatic visionary that can translate business needs into workable technology solutions that scale both technologically and operationally. You will be working with Data Scientists, Product Managers, and Software Engineering. You will be developing system and product architecture, documenting software specifications, designing solutions, contributing to technology selection, defining acceptance criteria, developing prototypes, writing and testing code.

As a Team Lead you'll guide a strong team in a fast-paced, startup-like environment. You'll lead the organization through change, evolution, and sustained growth. You will contribute in establishment and enforcement of coding standards, E2E Agile SDLC processes, overseeing release and configuration management activities, mentoring software and data engineers.


In concert with Product Management and other internal partners define future product directions, priorities and roadmaps, make decisions on what to build and why.

Provide technical leadership and make critical technical contributions to the delivered products.

Guide, mentor, train, and manage team members to help them reach their potential and expand their expertise. You succeed when your team succeeds.

Ensure prompt response to all development, production, post-release support, and quality issues

Establish and institutionalize organization standards, processes and procedures

Ensure organizational compliance with Capital One corporate standards

Basic qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree in computer science, engineering or mathematics

At least 8 years of experience in software development with Java and Spring Framework

At least 8 years of experience in software engineering and architecture on data centric and data analytical systems

At least 4 years of Technical Leadership experience leading Agile teams in CICD and Test Driven environments.

At least 1 year experience building Cloud highly available, scalable services and solutions.

Preferred Qualifications:

MS or PHD in computer science, engineering or mathematics

2 years' experience with AWS

2 years' experience with noSQL data management systems

2 years' of experience working with automated build and continuous integration systems Ansible, Chef, Puppet or Jenkins
