Principal Risk Specialist - Capital Markets

Capital One is selectively recruiting for a Principal Associate for its Debt Capital Market Risk team. This individual, along with their peers, will be responsible for ensuring the quality and robustness of the firm's oversight of their leveraged lending business. The individual will have the opportunity to work on cutting edge technology projects by creating solutions ranging from programming quantitative models, implementing ETL/data warehousing processes, creating databases, and front-end software. The role is on an exciting fast paced team sitting on Capital One's trading floor. The position requires frequent interaction with the loan syndication team and has lots of opportunity to interface with many of the firm's most senior leaders.

General Responsibilities:

  • Manage the distribution risk of the leveraged lending book
  • Generate market commentary and periodic reports measuring exposures versus limits
  • Perform analysis and render an opinion for all underwritten deals going to the Market Risk Committee
  • Engage with deal teams to understand deals and voice opinions and concerns to management
  • Manage and enhance the flow and quality of data related to the syndication business
  • Own, develop, and run models used for loan syndications including but not limited to stress testing and refinancing models
  • Build well-managed data solutions, tools, and capabilities to enable self-service frameworks for data consumers
  • Develop project plans, setting and managing expectations, and delivering timely results


Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree
  • At least 3 years of capital markets risk management experience


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's Degree Engineering, or Master's Degree in Information Technology, or Master's Degree in Math, or Master's degree in Finance
  • Certified Financial Analyst (CFA), or Series 63 or Series 79
  • 4+ years of capital markets risk management experience
  • 3+ years of credit analysis or financial statement analysis
  • Knowledge of loan syndication market and processes
  • Understanding of fixed income instruments
  • Ability to effectively communicate with team members of all seniority
  • Innate curiosity and passion to learn
  • Technical Skills: C#, SQL, VBA, .NET, WPF, or Bloomberg
