Principal Associate - Technology Internal Communications and Strategy

Capital One's Financial Services Technology Strategy team is looking for a creative storyteller with an eye for detail, a passion for perfection and the energy to implement and evolve a multi-faceted communications strategy.

We want to bolster our brand and need the right person to create a memorable and consistent storyline across a variety of channels. This includes an enhanced intranet site, a newsletter, email communications, videos, leader blogs and presentations, and other innovative solutions. Along the way, you will have the opportunity for exposure to senior leaders while contributing to the transformation of Capital One into a technology company.

What You'll Do

As part of the Strategy team for Financial Services Technology, you'll get exposure to a wide variety of projects aimed at making the department a great place to work. This will include talent programs, events, recognition and other ways to drive engagement, morale and FUN!

You'll primarily focus on managing communications for an internal audience and will develop content based on business strategies using the appropriate tools and channels. You'll be a communications guru for the Technology team and will create, implement and innovate when it comes to communications strategies, channel management, presentations and other client specific projects. You can expect to manage day-to-day communications as well as participate in change initiatives.

You'll work to ensure you have a deep understanding of your audience so you can capture their attention and impact their behavior. And, you'll be at the ready to work with our technologists on external opportunities, including seeking out and vetting opportunities in concert with our PR team, creating content, and coaching speakers on the best way to convey their story as well as Capital One's. Additionally, you may be called upon to aid your fellow team members in engagement and staffing strategy programs.

  • You aid in creating and evangelizing the Financial Services Technology brand internally and externally

  • You effectively partner with divisional and enterprise communications teams who see you as a go-to within the department and know that you won't go rogue, but will always support and reinforce overarching company and line of business messaging - while also elevating Financial Services Technology across the organization
  • You're never satisfied with the status quo and are always looking for ways to one-up yourself
  • Change doesn't scare you; you're ready to take what comes, create well thought out change plans and act as an advocate for change
  • Strong writing, editing, proofreading, layout and design skills including the ability to present concepts verbally
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of current trends in digital media and communications
  • Proficient with a plethora of communications tools - websites, video, PowerPoint, Keynote
  • Graphic arts knowledge - Photoshop, Illustrator, video animation


Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree
  • At least 5 years of experience in communications
  • At least 2 years of experience working with executive level communications and strategy
  • At least 2 years of experience developing and spearheading a communication strategy
  • At least 1 year of experience working with or in a technology organization


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, English, Marketing or Journalism
  • 7 years of communications experience
  • 3 years' experience developing and spearheading a communication strategy
  • 2 years of experience working with or in a technology organization
  • 3 years of project management experience
  • 2 years of change management experience
