Principal Associate, Software Engineer

As a Capital One Senior Software Engineer on this team you'll work on immutable, distributed systems, ledger technology, data streaming, and backend Scala based systems using functional programming. You're a good fit as a generally curious person who's fascinated by algorithms and puzzles. As someone who's constantly learning you'll have experience being highly productive in multiple languages such as Scala, Closure, Java, Haskell, C++, golang, Scheme, Common Lisp, and other Lisp dialects, but not limited to these languages. We use technologies such as Kafka, modern databases and AWS/Cloud Infrastructure, to name a few.

Our team is tasked with enabling a financial system of record for account balances and transaction processing at Capital One. We regularly work with other teams and relevant stakeholders as we build out our vision for the future of Capital One's financial systems.

You will:

- Lead the craftsmanship, availability, resilience, and scalability of your solutions

- Bring a passion to stay on top of tech trends, experiment with and learn new technologies, participate in internal & external technology communities, and mentor other members of the engineering community

- Encourage innovation, implementation of cutting-edge technologies, inclusion, outside-of-the-box thinking, teamwork, self-organization, and diversity

- Work with product owners to understand desired application capabilities and testing scenarios

- Continuously improve software engineering practices

Basic Qualifications:

- Bachelor's Degree or military experience

- At least 4 years' experience in software development

Preferred Qualifications:

- Master's Degree

- At least 6 years' experience in software development

- An understanding of why and how to build products that are accessible to everyone, including those with disabilities
