Mgr, Platform Engineer - Resiliency and Recovery

The Manager, Reliability Engineer is accountable for architecture / design for a portion of a platform, or project (agile team) initiative. Responsible for tracking and reporting of various assignments. Manages multiple initiatives at a time. This role is part of building and supporting large scale reliable applications that impact the way that Capital One does business. You will participate in detailed technical design, development and implementation of applications using existing and emerging technology platforms.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead technical recovery exercises across a large multi-division Technology organization
  • Ability to lead cross functional teams, provide guidance on architectural patterns as they relate to resiliency and recovery
  • Handle high complexity and / or moderately ambiguous tasks
  • Act as the technical or team lead to implement medium sized projects and communicate status to many levels of management
  • Conduct exercise reviews with auditors to ensure compliance with resiliency and recovery standards
  • Focus on continuous improvement practices as required to meet quality imperatives
  • Maintain records to effectively document technical exercise results
  • Share best practices and improve processes within and across sprint teams, and mentor more junior team members
  • Subject Matter Expert within specific disciplines (e.g. routing and switching, databases,

applications)

  • Participate in stand-ups, retrospective and other ceremonies as needed
  • Estimate level of effort to meet acceptance criteria

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree or military experience
  • At least 5 years of experience in disaster recovery, resiliency, design and/or development of high-availability system
  • At least 5 years of experience with industry patterns, methodologies, and techniques across the disaster recovery discipline
  • At least 5 years of experience with common network protocols, system admin and application development
  • At least 4 years of experience with data analysis and presenting summarized view of complicated-patterns
  • At least 2 years of Cloud AWS, DNS, and Database replication methods
  • At least 5 years of experience with Release management, application support, availability management and incident management experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree
  • 2+ years of PHP/HTML web development
  • 2+ years of SQL scripting experience
  • ITIL certification
  • AWS certification (Solutions Architect, DevOps, or Developer)
