Business Manager

As a Business Analysis Manager at Capital One, you will apply your strategic and analytical skills to major company challenges. For Capital One's Small Business divisions, we aspire to be the leading small business financial service provider in the United States. We have a real opportunity to leverage analytics to develop deep, data-driven platform solutions to Small Business customer's most critical needs and to do so in a way that allows for deep integration across products and experiences.

General Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Planning and Leadership: Develop and own business strategies that will drive growth, profitability, and competitive success for Capital One in the face of shifting consumer and regulatory demands. Build out a long-term roadmap for one or more key product/capability initiatives that integrate Small Business Card and Bank data, products, and experiences.
  • People Leadership: May manage and develop 1-2 analysts. Coach and mentor associates with a goal of developing and retaining diverse talent at Capital One.
  • Rigorous Analysis: Utilize multiple sources of high quality quantitative and qualitative data to answer complex business problems. Gather, structure, and analyze the complex data sets needed to support this type of work.
  • Problem Solving: Develop structures and frameworks to address broad, high-impact, white-space problem statements. Build out robust analytical roadmaps to come to conclusive, data-driven recommendations. Drive holistic, multi-layered solutions.
  • Proactive Partnership and Communication: Work closely with colleagues across Capital One Small Business Bank and Small Business Card including but not limited to: Analytics, Product, Tech, Sales, Operations, Finance and others to drive improvement in quality, volume, service, and profitability. Leverage impeccable written and oral communication frameworks, coupled with strategic influencing skills in order to drive alignment and forward progress across a diverse subset of stakeholders.
  • Human-Centered Research and Design: Participate in Design Thinking exercises, and other human-centered methodologies for innovation to develop a meaningful understanding of the practical needs of business owners as well as internal customers.
  • Credit Risk Management: Drive step-change improvements in credit performance by connecting drivers of future consumer credit trends to historical behavior, creating risk models, and testing hypotheses using rigorous monitoring and analysis.
  • Execution: Manage and sequence delivery of business intent, build business requirements and execute against the product strategy. Oversee multiple projects and programs concurrently.


What we are looking for:
  • Strategic & analytic orientation: A proven track record of decision making and problem solving based on analytics. Conceptual thinking skills must be complemented by a strong quantitative orientation.
  • Strong business judgment, leadership and integrity: Should be a tenacious decision maker, able to bring a healthy, aggressive, yet responsible approach to business. Proven comfort with making decisions in the best interest of customers and the business, even when faced with short deadlines and heavy external pressures.
  • Solid people leadership experience: Ability to build and leverage the capabilities of a high-performing team, as well as business partners across the enterprise. Demonstrate a forward lean on ways to include, empower, and inspire a high diverse team of associates. Should foster innovation, drive critical decisions, hold business partners accountable, and be able to consistently deliver results as an individual and through others.
  • Strong executive communication skills: Impeccable written and oral communication credentials, coupled with strategic influencing skills and the ability to drive agreement through intellect, interpersonal and negotiation skills.
  • Clear results orientation: display an intense focus on achieving both short and long term goals. Should be able to drive and execute an agenda in an uncertain and fluid environment.
  • Successful track record of thriving in a fast paced, entrepreneurial and dynamic environment. Previous consulting experience is a plus.
  • Outsized Learning Focus: Demonstrate a high level of intellectual curiosity and comfort with ambiguity. Be able to take critical feedback and quickly integrate it into continuous improvement. Quickly recover from failure and proactively glean lessons learned from each new experience.


Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in any quantitative field (Business, Math, Economics, Finance, Statistics, Science, Engineering)
  • At least 2 years of experience in analysis


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's Degree in Business or quantitative field such as Finance, Economics, Physical Sciences, Math, Statistics, Engineering
  • 5+ years of experience in analysis
  • 2+ years of experience in financial services
  • 1+ year of experience in consulting
  • 2+ years of experience in people management

  • Position open to Richmond or McLean. Candidates should be willing to experience some level of travel between the two office locations on a regular basis.
