Director, Technical Systems Operations

Summary:

Capital One is looking for a Director to oversee the day to day Operations within our internal infrastructure. Our team focuses on the systemic infrastructure and ensuring the successful management, security, storage, and movement of our data on various platforms is functional for all our Associates at Capital One.

Responsibilities:

  • Accountable for 4-7 direct reports, overseeing a department of approximately 65 technical associates whom perform in a production environment and are accountable for configuring systems to enable credit and marketing systems to select, market, and financial products
  • Overseeing cost efficiency and maintaining a budget of $20+ million
  • Manage DevOps engineering to deliver technology solutions in support of business strategy and growth
  • Manage a portfolio of DevOps technologies that support software being built to support technology automation for Storage, Backups and Operating system in the public cloud as well as on-premises
  • Mentor, coach and lead developers in using automation, configuration and container tooling
  • Partner and influence enterprise organizations in the evolution of shared DevOps technologies
  • Engage in product discussions, influence the operational capabilities roadmap, and guide technical direction
  • Evolve an agile delivery model that builds on a very collaborative, open and rapid interaction between intent providers and technology execution
  • Work with stakeholders in the Technology organization to identify and define the next generation DevOps opportunities and drive a game changing strategy driven by technology
  • Build Cloud practices and implementations for non-production and production environments; lead non-production environment management
  • Commit features and code to the Open Source projects; develop proofs of concept and prototypes for new technologies and products
  • Deliver infrastructure changes in support of complex application development projects
  • Recruit, motivate, mentor, and lead the best DevOps engineering talent and enable our diverse, inclusive and customer centric culture

Technologies used: OpenSource, S3, EBS, EC2, Ubuntu, Linux, Cloud (multi cloud environments)

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree or military experience
  • At least 5 years' experience leading a technical operational environment
  • At least 5 years' experience in a virtual environment (vSphere, VMware, OpenStack)
  • At least 1 year experience in a Cloud environment (AWS, Azure, Google)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Graduate Degree in Engineering or Computer Science fields or military experience
  • 7+ years' of experience in virtualization and containerization
  • 3+ years' of experience leveraging and managing a public cloud
  • 2+ years' of experience with Agile development methodologies
  • 2+ years' of experience mentoring and teaching technical concepts
