Director of Planning & Engagement, External Affairs

The External Affairs Strategy & Engagement Team (EASE) drives strategic initiatives, inspires engagement and ensures that External Affairs is well-managed. This leadership role on the EASE team will drive substantive and significant projects, processes and activities to deliver value for the External Affairs' organization and broader Capital One. The work will be diverse and wide-ranging, but will focus on driving a well-managed agenda while also inspiring associate engagement and driving strategic initiatives. This individual must be able to effectively communicate with and influence associates, leaders and partners within External Affairs, across the company and across multiple levels of the organization. Strong strategic & analytical skills, attention to detail, process focus and the ability to adapt to constantly changing environments are essential to succeeding in this role.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development and execution of programs and processes supporting department strategies, including all aspects of our well-managed initiatives.
  • Serve as a key advisor on the EASE team supporting the day-to-day and longer-term activities of the External Affairs organization
  • Offer other ad-hoc consulting or operational support to major projects
  • Lead a team of diverse talent to deliver results that align to our strategic, well-managed and engagement goals.


Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree or military experience
  • At least 3 years of experience in cross-functional project or at least 3 years of experience in process management
  • At least 5 years of experience in people leadership
  • At least 1 year of experience in strategic planning
  • At least 2 years of experience as a Chief of Staff or at least 2 years of experience working within a Chief of Staff team


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Masters Degree in Industrial engineering, Process engineering, Process management, Systems engineering, Management, Business or Business Administration (MBA)
  • Process Management certification or Project Management certification (i.e. Lean, Six Sigma, PMP) or Business Management certification
  • 3+ years of experience as a Chief of Staff
  • 7+ years of experience in people leadership and management
