Design Program Lead
Founded in 2011, Capital One Labs is the company's experimental product & technology incubator and accelerator. It's a startup culture with the financial backing of a Fortune 200 company. With teams in SF, NYC, and DC, Labs is a cross-functional team of product managers, designers, data scientists, developers, and other innovators who are committed to delivering revolutionary innovation that challenges how we all interact with our money.
Capital One Labs NYC is seeking out a Culture and Experience Lead to come and help us expand our world class office. This role reports directly to the Head of Product in New York and works with our labs wide operations team. As the Culture and Experience Lead you would be responsible for developing and executing the local strategy for nurturing the culture and rituals of the labs in service to our product practice. You will be the beacon of how our culture and values manifest in actions and attitude. As a member of the NYC innovation lab you will be expected to approach office experience design with the same rigor as we approach product, experience and platform design. This means you work in short test and learn cycles with lots of prototyping and user testing.
- Organize and maintain record of all hiring in the NY office in addition to being a critical member of the hiring panel across all disciplines.
- Develop a process for helping onboard new labs members in a way that appropriately sets context and community that immediately lets them share their talents and point of view.
- Develop and own all local team rituals and events
- Create the structure for recognition and celebration that allows the entire office to execute without much guidance.
- Own the strategy for all external events which represent the NYC Labs brand.
- Own the relationship with other Capital One departments and groups that would like to engage with the NY Labs.
- Be the local barometer for the team health of NYC
You will have a proven track record of developing and honing an innovation culture. Having a hypothesis, a prototype and a metric of success for your experience designs excites you. You are comfortable collaborating across disciplines, and different ways of thinking. You enjoy critical debate that focuses not on who is right, but rather what is best for the customer and the current context. You are highly strategic and human centered, but don't think that means you can't execute exceptionally. You are highly independent and seek out the inspiration and feedback of others to always drive towards the best solution. You know when to be super scrappy and when to double down and invest in higher resolution systemic solutions.

- Bachelor's Degree or military experience
- At least 4 years in people operations or culture design
- Master's degree
- Training in design thinking/human centered design
