As a Capital One Software Engineer, you'll work on everything from customer-facing web and mobile applications using cutting-edge open source frameworks, to highly-available RESTful services, to back-end Java based systems using the hottest techniques in Big Data. You'll bring solid experience in emerging and traditional technologies such as: node.js, Java, AngularJS, React, Python, REST, JSON, XML, Ruby, HTML / HTML5, CSS, NoSQL databases, relational databases, Hadoop, Chef, Maven, iOS, Android, and AWS/Cloud Infrastructure to name a few.


-Reverse engineer legacy application stacks in order to design and architect cloud based replacement patterns

-Design and build fault tolerant, automated and highly resilient cloud solutions for physical infrastructure migration projects (IaC, IaaS)

-Develop scripts and glue code to integrate multiple software components

-Automate the provisioning of environments with automation tools such as Puppet, Chef, Jenkins or Ansible and the deployment of those environments using containers, or serverless approachs

-Leverage code repos and versioning such as with GIT to incrementally improve upon automation scripts

-Design and develop automation workflows, performing unit tests and conducting reviews to make sure your work is rigorously designed, elegantly coded, and effectively tuned for platform performance, and assessing the overall quality of delivered components

-Implement horizontally scalable systems wherever possible while right sizing environments to control costs

-Evaluate & build different compute frameworks for all tiers

-Work independently and with and across teams

-Collaborate with other platforms tech leads to ensure integrated end-to-end design

-Document design decisions and ensuring adherences

-Enforce and uphold security, resiliency and cost guidelines

-Strong verbal and written communication skills are necessary due to the dynamic nature of collaborations with customers, vendors, and other engineering team, solving complex business problems together

-Deploy systems to production alongside Development and SRE teams during cutovers and production

Basic Qualifications:

-At least 1 years' experience developing applications embracing Agile principles

-At least 1 years' experience with Cloud based hosting solutions (AWS-EC2/S3, Azure, Google Cloud)

-At least 2 years' with large-scale infrastructure designs, implementation, and support

Preferred Qualifications:

-Master's Degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, or Engineering

-AWS Certified

-5+ years' experience with OOP concepts and modern scripting languages, (Python, Ruby, Perl) and frameworks (RAILS)

-3+ years' creating recipes with Chef, building cookbooks

-3+ years' using cloud based hosting solutions (AWS-EC2/S3, Azure, Google Cloud)

-3 + years' with automation tools for server provisioning and Open Source tools (Ansible, Cobbler, Ironic, Chef and Chef Metal)

-3+ years' developing automation workflows and routines, using Open Source Tools (Chef, Puppet, Hudson), or Vendor Based Tools (HPSA/OO, vCAC, uDeploy)

-3+ years' experience with large-scale software implementation (high transaction volume, high-availability concepts) .

-2+ years' experience with Linux, server automation and scripting

-2+ years' experience with current licensing strategies around Open Source (Apache Foundation, GNU, MIT License)
