Commercial Loan Operations - Collateral Boarding Associate
Job Description
Commercial Collateral Boarding is part of Capital One's Commercial Bank Operations. The team supports multiple lines of business as well as a wide array of loan structures/types such as construction, commercial real estate, term loans, and revolving credit facilities. Associates on the Collateral Boarding team develop expertise in areas such as loan documentation with a concentration on collateral and security agreements, loan accounting system functionality, as well as several other key platforms and related tools. With the core function of ensuring the commercial Banks's loan related collateral is properly accounted for, in support of ongoing monitoring and control. Associates in the role must have strong written and verbal communication to support interaction with varying levels of internal and external clients, stakeholders, and partner teams throughout the loan life-cycle. In addition to supporting new loans, amendments and modifications, associates are regularly engaged in process improvement efforts, change management, cross-training
Roles & Responsibilities:
- Reviews a high volume of loan documentation to appropriate capture collateral, document, and related party data into loan accounting system.
- Perform regular follow ups on outstanding documents and exceptions, to include verification of original documentation, and document recordation.
- Must have strong attention to detail and good organizational skills
- Strong aptitude for leveraging new technology and tools to identify and improve processes and controls
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively on projects and day to day functions
- Utilize training, judgement, and previous experience to perform complex reconciliations of loan data
- Communicate with stakeholders regarding unique loan transactions and exceptions
- Ability to articulate daily functions in procedural format to maintain strong, effective written procedures for all job functions
- Monitor periodic reporting for workflow coordination, controls monitoring, training opportunity and exceptions management
- Communicate with commercial loan system support/vendor(s) as necessary regarding system issues, reports and modifications/enhancements
- Effectively and appropriately communicate problems/issues within management team to create awareness and transparency
- Provide presentations to team and to senior leadership team regarding workflow metrics, issue resolution, project updates, etc.
- Assist in the training of new associates as well as regular cross training of partner teams
- Follow up on post-closing exceptions and receipt of original documents
Basic Qualifications:
- High School Degree, GED or Military Experience
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree or Military Experience
- At least 1 year of Commercial Bank Operations experience
