Associate - Credit Risk, Commercial Credit Policy & Innovation

Role Description:

Capital One's Commercial Credit Policy & Innovation (CCP&I) team, housed within the Commercial Credit Risk and Analytics (CR&A) division is responsible for defining the credit parameters and authorities for the commercial business of Capital One Bank, and ensuring Associates understand Capital One's risk tolerance in each line of business. CCP&I owns the commercial credit risk framework, its underlying documents and governance associated with it. The team's contribution is critical in providing a foundation for sound credit risk management practices, complying with internal policies and external regulations and exhibiting the overall culture of Capital One. CCP&I is responsible for a broad set of credit risk management activities for the Commercial Bank and providing an opportunity for significant professional growth and exposure to senior management.

CCP&I is seeking an Associate with credit risk management experience. This person will work together with other members of a dynamic team to deliver a significant change program for CR&A and the Commercial Bank. This person will partner with associates across the Commercial Banking businesses and play an integral role within the CCP&I team, supporting efforts to streamline the policy framework and implement changes that are strategic and transformative for the firm. The role offers opportunity for significant professional growth and exposure across the Commercial Bank including the Business Lines and Risk Organization.

Specific accountabilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Challenging the status quo to improve and enhance credit policy, understanding the objective for each policy matter and impact to business
  • Researching on regulatory interpretation and best industry practices relating to commercial lending practices
  • Formulating and implementing solutions, leveraging technology to enhance credit process

The Person

The CCP&I team plays a key role in the Commercial Risk Management organization, responsible for the credit risk parameters across our commercial businesses. The CCP&I Associate will help form a common credit culture and therefore, should possess the following core:
  • Strategic and analytic orientation - a proven track record of problem-solving based on available data
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, coupled with strategic influencing skills and the ability to drive agreement through intellect, interpersonal and negotiation skills
  • Highly collaborative orientation and strong team player who places the best interests of the organization above personal objectives
  • Ability to establish credibility, trust and support within all levels of the organization
  • Aptitude for synthesizing complex issues into a clear and concise summary
  • Proactive and results-oriented

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or Military experience
  • At least 1 year of experience in a credit risk management or policy role in a regulated financial institution

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's Degree
  • At least 2 years of experience in a change management role
