HR Coordinator, Operations

Position Overview:

The HR Coordinator, Operations will provide HR generalist support for the Canada Goose Production teams in the GTA in various areas including: labour relations, health and safety, compensation, recruitment, orientation and performance management.

Key Responsibilities:

Labour Relations

  • Provides advice to the facility on all labour relations matters to key stakeholders on the interpretation and application of the collective agreement
  • In partnership with Production management staff, represents the company in grievance disputes, arbitration hearings and negotiations
  • Coordinates the grievance process in collaboration with the Production Teams; attends grievance meetings and obtains advice from management when necessary; tracks all grievances for reporting purposes
  • Investigates conflict, discrimination and harassment complaints and provides effective recommendations
  • Assists the HR Managers and Production management team in the planning and preparation for collective bargaining
  • Provides regulatory and policy advice on workforce related matters
  • Enhances and maintains good relationships with the union and union-management representatives
  • Recommends changes in policies, practices and contract language in support of the union-management partnership
  • With the guidance of the HR Manager, coaches and counsels Supervisors/Managers, as appropriate, in addressing shop floor disputes and/or grievances
  • Promotes an environment between Canada Goose and Union Leaders that works to achieve common goals and finds effective solutions to ongoing issues
  • As the primary liaison between management and the union, is able to clearly communicate the intent of both sides in order to reduce bias and misunderstandings

Prevention, Safety and Wellness

  • Lead health and safety programs to ensure a safe and secure work environment
  • Responsible for corporate safety and health programs that support the well-being of employees in the facility through industry best practices, knowledge of legislative requirements and the awareness of the fiscal impacts to the business plan

Human Resources Generalist

  • Responsible for hourly staff recruitment with the support of the Talent Acquisition team: Attract and secure qualified personnel in accordance with legislative and contractual requirements
  • Provide new operations employees with a comprehensive onboarding program to enable a smooth transition into CG
  • Prepare internal HR related documents including employment, promotion and transfer letters, termination forms
  • Ensure HRIS data is up to date and accurate; recommend process improvements for the system
  • Maintain confidentiality and accuracy of appropriate documentation throughout employment history for all employees
  • Support/lead and implement various HR projects and initiatives

Education, Qualifications and Experience

  • A post-secondary education in Business, Human Resources, or Labour Relations is required
  • 2+ years labour relations experience including handling of grievances; exposure to arbitrations and collective bargaining preferred
  • 2+ years' experience coordinating various Health & Safety policies and initiatives
  • Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development within the HR profession

Knowledge, Skills and Attributes

  • Working knowledge of employment/labour legislation in Canada and Human Rights legislation including but not limited to: The Employment Standards Act, The Ontario Human Rights Code, The Occupational Health & Safety Act, The Workplace Safety & Insurance Act, the Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System, the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act; understands how they apply to Canada Goose
  • Well versed in a number of HR functional competencies and best practices
  • Excellent informal influencing and negotiating skills are required for interactions with the union and non-union staff
  • Creativity and demonstrated ability working in a fast paced environment with a high degree of change and ambiguity is critical
  • Can easily make the needed connections between systems, processes, and individuals to facilitate change
  • Ability to work efficiently under pressure
  • Keen sense of time management and flexibility
  • Exceptional attention to detail and committed to a high degree of accuracy
  • Excellent grammar, business letter and report writing skills
  • A clear and succinct communicator (verbal and written)
  • Ability to think proactively, critically and independently to make good decisions
