About our Company:

Located on a quiet stretch of San Antonio's River Walk, Hotel Havana is a 27 room historic property restored from a 1914 upscale residential hotel. Paying homage to its original spirit, all unique guest rooms and public spaces reflect a combination of Mediterranean Revival architecture, rich Spanish Colonial history, and calm Caribbean temperament, which has made Hotel Havana one of the most authentic places to stay in San Antonio. Hotel Havana also offers two distinct dining venues: Ocho, a glass-enclosed restaurant serving pan-Latin and San Antonio-fused cuisine with river views, along with Havana Bar, the downstairs cocktail lounge with velvet couches and antique leather club chairs.

Bunkhouse has designed and developed a celebrated portfolio of hospitality projects including Hotel San José, Hotel Saint Cecilia, Austin Motel, and Jo's Coffee in Austin, Hotel Havana and Ocho in San Antonio, and El Cosmico in Marfa, Texas.

Responsibilities:

  1. Adhere to all standards of operations, policies and procedures, manuals, training material, memos and verbal instruction

  2. Maintain a high level of personal hygiene and adhere to dress code policies

  3. Escort customers to their tables

  4. Present menus to patrons and answer questions about menu items, making recommendations upon request

  5. Describe and recommend wines to customers

  6. Check patrons' identification to ensure that they meet minimum age requirements for consumption of alcoholic beverages

  7. Explain how various menu items are prepared, describing ingredients and cooking methods

  8. Serve food or beverages to patrons, and prepare or serve specialty dishes at tables as required

  9. Inform customers of daily specials

  10. Write patrons' food orders on order slips, memorize orders, or enter orders into computers for transmittal to kitchen staff

  11. Take orders from patrons for food or beverage

  12. Must see to each guests special needs (i.e. dietary, splitting dishes, paying special attention to children)

  13. Garnish and decorate dishes in preparation for serving

  14. Assist with running of food

  15. Check with customers to ensure that they are enjoying their meals and take action to correct any problems

  16. Manage order times and informs guests of any delays in service and informs management

  17. Suggests and describes desserts or coffee at the completion of the guests' meal

  18. Prepare checks that itemize and total meal costs and sales taxes

  19. Collect payments from customers

  20. Remove dishes and glasses from tables or counters, and take them to kitchen for cleaning

  21. Clean tables or counters after patrons have finished dining

  22. Prepare tables for meals, including setting up items such as linens, silverware, and glassware

  23. Perform food and beverage preparation duties such as preparing salads, appetizers, and cold dishes, portioning desserts, brewing coffee, preparing hot or cold drinks, chilling wine

  24. Stock service areas with supplies such as coffee, food, tableware, and linens

  25. Fill salt, pepper, sugar, cream, condiment, and napkin containers

  26. Bring wine selections to tables with appropriate glasses, and pour the wines for customers

  27. Ensure open lines of communication with all departments and upper management at all times via email, log books, meetings, etc., to ensure all needs of the hotel are met

  28. Maintain a high level of cleanliness and safety in the work area

  29. Ensure that all equipment is maintained in good, safe working condition

  30. Maintain an increased awareness of safety issues throughout the property

  31. Keep abreast of safety and emergency procedures and OSHA requirements

  32. Attend relevant meetings

Education & Experience:

  1. High School diploma or general education degree (GED)

  2. Three (3) years related experience in hospitality or service industry preferred
