Job Summary:

The Controller's primary responsibility is to manage all day-to-day accounting operations and analysis functions ranging from general accounting (including month-end close and account reconciliations), forecasting, budgeting, internal and external reporting, Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable and special projects. This role is very hands-on and active in the key accounting processes for the Firm

Essential Functions:

  • Perform the month end closing, analysis of the financial statements, and produce the monthly financial reporting package to be included in presentation for Partner group
  • Responsible for journal entry preparation, advanced account analysis and balance sheet reconciliations for the Firm
  • Develop and assist in the implementation of procedures and automated processes to enhance the workflow of the department and improve the utilization of Firm resources
  • Development and implementation of controls to ensure data integrity
  • Work with all Practice and Department leaders to produce the annual expense budget for the Firm and assist in the overall budget and forecast processes
  • Monitor aging of accounts receivable, to identify areas of concern and meet regularly with partners and billing managers to discuss needs for specific clients
  • Follow up on past due accounts requesting payment, resolving billing/payment discrepancies, negotiating payment plans, and referring accounts to attorneys or collection agencies, as appropriate
  • Obtain and maintain a thorough understanding of the Time and Billing system to use in analysis of firm results and assist in providing instruction on handling transactions
  • Responsible for the Submitter interface with ExpensAble software including training, improvements, and ongoing communication with the Firm
  • Manage the Accounts Payable function ensuring accuracy and timely payment and improving processes through automation
  • Maintain day to day banking relationships and cash management
  • Research technical accounting issues for compliance
  • Manage and comply with local, state and federal reporting requirements

    Additional Duties included but not limited to:
  • Supervise other staff in the department which includes performance reviews and development plans
  • Perform other duties as requested or assigned
Education and Experience:
  • BS Degree in Accounting
  • CPA license preferred
  • 5-7 Years in accounting experience
  • Experience working in CPA, law or professional service firm preferred
  • Strong computer skills required
  • Proficient in MicrosoftExcel and Word and experience with Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable and General Ledger software packages
  • Ability to listen, communicate (written and verbal), maintain excellent grammar/spelling/proof reading skills
  • Ability to follow-up effectively with all staffing levels and clients/customers
  • Demonstrated leadership and ability to make independent decisions and ability to work effectively on teams
  • Must be able to multi-task, prioritize, and work efficiently while working independently
  • Must demonstrate good common sense and sound judgment
  • Prior supervisory experience preferred
