Job Description

Role:  Country Manager, Japan


The Country Manager (“the Role”) is responsible for the rapid development of Broadridge’s Japan business (“the Region”) and the high-quality servicing of its clients irrespective of service/product line.   

The Role will be across the entire Broadridge GTO portfolio. The Role will co-operate with various business units to deliver Broadridge’s results and growth ambitions both globally and in the Region.

The Country manager will manage the Region’s P& L and directly manage the staff in the Region’s office, and oversee business activities in the country. The Role will sit on the management team of Asia.

Main Purpose

·        Responsible and accountable for all aspects of Broadridge’s business in the Region, including

o   Management of all client relationships within the Region (“great client satisfaction”)

o   Execution of business growth across the Region (“accretive revenue growth”)

o   Management of cost base and optimization of costs to deliver earnings growth (“accretive EBIT growth”)

o   Work directly with Broadridge businesses in delivery of business and services for the Region’s clients (“win and maintain local mandates”)

o   Work with Broadridge businesses on a global basis where HK is a component of the solution (“win and maintain global mandates”)

o   Management of budgeting and financial reporting (“financial stewardship”)  

o   Leadership and management of the Region’s office and staff (“inspirational coaching and mentoring”)

·        Responsible for contributing to Asia’s overall strategy and growth through direction participation in Asia’s overall governance (“build an Asia business to be proud of”)

General Responsibilities

Business Development & Sales

·        Win business in the Region and globally to make Broadridge’s overall growth objectives

·        Responsible for the Region’s revenue base across all locally delivered services and clients in the region

·        Work directly with sales group (local, Asia, and global) to maximise revenue generating opportunities

·        Close opportunity in partnership with sales team and ensuring the right resources are allocated to achieve this

·        Ensure there is a sustainable business model for the Region in terms of  pipeline, and product viability

Client Management

·        Manage client relationships in the Region to maximise client retention and satisfaction and win new business as a result

·        Serve as the trusted escalation point for the resolution of issues

·        Maintain specific senior relationships with clients and prospects with a long-term aim of client retention and business growth (note: need is to ensure relationship map is maintained and relationship management spread across senior leadership)

·        Ensure quality of client services such that SLAs are met/exceeded and ensure clients will  recommend Broadridge


·      Inspire teams to convert new business to beat “plan” and “budget”

·      Ensure that resources are planned for implementation activities

·      Ensure that clear deliverables and requirements are set out at start of project

·      Participate in senior governance on larger initiatives

·      Manage escalations and ensure effective conclusion for client and Broadridge

·      Provide direction to steering for implementation projects within the Region

·     Ensure office participates effectively and efficiently in global implementations and understands roles and responsibilities of the team members


·        Inspire teams to exceed SLA and KPI goals to deliver excellent client satisfaction

·        Ensure clients receive the support they need and work with the centres of excellence to deliver efficiencies within support functions.

·        Ensure continuous improvement processes are in place to review operational efficiencies and implement improvements

·        Participate in global or regional initiatives to improve operations

·        Ensure clients who take global services (such as our ASP services) receive the same or better levels of client services as if they were a local client

HR responsibilities – People and Culture

·        Provide leadership to the Region, motivating the teams to exceed our  business goals

·        Direct line management of operational associates in the Region

·        Stewardship of local associates in shared service functions such as Finance, Sales, IT

·        Ensure all associates, irrespective of function, feel part  of our vison and one company agenda

·        Identify and promote high potential talent and work with HR on talent agenda

·        Address lower performing talent and inspire them to improve or manage out appropriately

·        Agree personal development plans with each local management team member

·        Ensure local management is undertaking all reviews and career development objectives to Broadridge guidelines

·        Understand and manage the competencies and career aspirations of the team

·        Maintain a cohesive and engaged working environment

·        Ensure staff are aware and aligned directly with strategic goals of the business

·        Ensure a safe and productive working environment


·        Provide accurate financial planning and reporting via finance team, and manage the overall P&L for the Region

·        Work with finance team to produce finance schedules (operating plans, forecasts, strategic plans) to the specific timetables

·        Ensure processes are in place to ensure accurate financial reporting to clients, e.g. invoices are raised and paid in a timely manner

·        Ensure decisions and actions of yourself and the associates align to achieving Broadridge’s finance goals while ensuring excellent client satisfaction

·        Manage local regulatory / legal issues as required under guidance of BR/GTO leadership

Person Specification

·        Good knowledge of financial services industry and local market

·        Good knowledge of Broadridge product set with probably deep domain knowledge in a specific area

·        Able to inspire others and bring teams together to work across time zones and cultures to service clients

·        Prepared to get involved in specific critical issues and address as needed

·        Act as a leader within the Region through driving results, personal commitment, and behaviours

·        Good presentation skills and ability to influence and engage clients and prospects

·        Numerate and able to understand business issues and financials to deliver value to Broadridge

·        Experience of managing business relationships

·        Strong sense of Business ethics and Broadridge values

·        Ability to comprehend the bigger picture (and needs of Broadridge) which may conflict on occasion with Regional needs

·        Ability to negotiate both internally and externally with a “fair trade-off” mentality to discussions

·        Good written communication skills

Reports to the Head of Asia

Matrix responsibility to business heads whose products are delivered into the region
