Technical Product Manager

About the role

Working as part of the Car Rental product organisation which delivers the core web framework, business and supplier tools, development tools and design system used by all our web product teams, you'll be leading the development of some of our most critical web services.

You'll be expected to use your experience in managing multiple software products, and running multiple high-performing technology teams to ensure we build a rock-solid web platform that can handle the tens of millions of users our market-leading brands serve every month.

You will report directly into the Senior Technical Product Manager who leads the group.

Responsibilities:

To successfully deliver innovative products in a fast-paced working environment you will need to:
  • Develop an understanding of product teams who operate the platform you will be building
  • Define your core platform metrics for your products; maintaining a strong focus on monitoring and measurement of your products; Be accountable for the end-to-end success of your product
  • Keep on top of industry trends and standards, and put those to good use in your own products
  • Present to colleagues and stakeholders the future direction and plan for your product; balancing simplifying complex areas with storytelling and explanation
  • Work with the Senior Product Manager and other senior stakeholders to define the overall strategy and direction for your product area
  • Understand migration paths and deprecation plans for outdated web services
  • Size opportunities, prioritise the roadmap, and set targets for your team that will stretch them and meet business goals
  • Ensure the team has well defined epics and stories to work against aligned to OKR's. Write functional specifications that define the expected behaviour of your products
  • Work collaboratively with a team of developers, designers, testers, analysts, researchers and others to create products that delight your users
  • Work with agile coaches and your team to drive continuous efficiency improvements
  • Communicate with multiple key stakeholders to keep them up to date and bought into your product development, managing change effectively to minimise disruption, manage dependencies and ensure adoption
  • Work closely with the Engineering Manager and the team to identify and manage technical debt in a sustainable manner whilst delivering against agreed OKRs
  • Identify internal customers to deliver first class tools and service to meet customer needs developing close relationships to understand user needs, existing pain points, and opportunities for improvements
Your skills and experience

Degree-educated

2+ years experience working as a Product Manager, Business Analyst, Product Analyst or similar role in a technology environment

Have a proven track record of delivering high resiliency and high availability web products

Proficient technical knowledge of web technologies, API design and development; cell based architecture; cloud technologies.

Proven experience of working effectively with diverse stakeholders

Excellent problem solving skills

Outstanding communication skills

Analytical in approach and naturally curious

Great organisational skills, and able to deliver results working collaboratively in Agile teams

Experience building, using and managing Product Roadmaps.

Plans and prioritises effectively; comfortable with ambiguity and pragmatism when plans change

Entrepreneurial mindset with a flexible, can-do attitude

Researches and stays up-to-date on current technological trends, both internally and externally.

Continuously builds commercial, market and technical knowledge.

Leverages knowledge and insights to anticipate customer and product needs.

Identifies where to find systems data and monitors these daily

Shows a data driven approach to decision making

Able to collect, interpret and translate data to support business decisions

Uses qualitative and quantitative data to drive both results and insights.

Uses an iterative approach to continuously test, learn, validate, and improve their product

Constantly analyzes, questions and interprets all relevant data

Leverages technical knowledge to interpret and translate data to support business decisions

Delivers impact and able to influence at the engineering manager and product manager level and above

Ability to elaborate on various technical solutions, challenge the alternatives, know their pros and cons, in order to decide on the best possible course of action.

Desirable

Experience as a software engineer or architect
