Lead, Technology Product Owner

Overview

In this rapidly evolving world, BNY Mellon is always looking for new ways to disrupt the status quo, go to market faster, and optimize customer experiences. We are seeking an experienced product owner to lead the charge on this mission. The ideal candidate will have big ideas and strategies that foster an environment of collaboration and creativity. This role is ideal for someone with an entrepreneurial mindset and real-world experience distilling business value and goals into roadmaps and refined product backlogs. Most importantly, you will be integral to helping us build better products that people [or businesses] love to use . The person in this role will be responsible for creating requirement documents, defining acceptance criteria, and running acceptance testing. The person will work with UX experts to design and deliver wire frames as requirements. The person will help prioritize specifications, create product road maps, and communicate to senior management on the status of projects. The person will work closely with the development team throughout the development cycle and be responsible to ensure successful delivery. Experience is needed in Portfolio Management and trading tools, including Goal planning, rebalancing, Client Presentations and/or trading. The person would work with technology to develop solutions using agile methodology. The candidate is expected to have clear communication skills and works well in a team. A minimum experience of 5 to 7 years is required.

Objectives of this Role
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to craft vision and concept development of a product
  • Take lead of scrum teams, defining product vision, roadmap, and growth opportunities, communicating with stakeholders throughout the project
  • Work with internal and external contacts to analyze needs and align product roadmap to strategic goals
  • Work closely with product management/business teams to create and maintain a product backlog according to business value or ROI
  • Keep up with agile/scrum best practices and trends
Daily and Monthly Responsibilities
  • Plan and prioritize product feature backlog and development for the product
  • Develop detailed product feature specifications and ensure they're clearly understood by the development teams
  • Assess value, develop cases, and prioritize stories, epics, and themes to ensure work aligns with product strategy
  • Actively mitigate roadblocks impacting successful team completion of release/sprint goals
  • Lead the product-release plans and set expectations for delivery of new functionalities
  • Serve as the product ambassador internally and externally, sharing knowledge and answering questions related to the product
Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in related discipline
  • In-depth knowledge of agile process and principles
  • Understanding of business value around feature/functions
  • Outstanding communication, presentation, and leadership skills
  • Sharp analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Able to effectively manage conflicting stakeholder needs

  • Master's degree a plus
  • Proficiency with applicable work management technology and tools
Provides technical leadership in a specific business domain within a line of business. Serves in a cross-program role to ensure quality of the deliverables within their areas of expertise and drives innovation and strategic solutions within global, mission-critical, large-scale programs. Provides expertise for a specific domain within a line of business. Directs and assists team to elicit, challenge, and prioritize requirements, translate into functional design and use case models. Manages the project scope, objectives, constraints and assumptions for a large, strategic, multi-year program. Provides guidance in development of the technical design, test plans, and user documentation. Leads implementation/conversion strategy planning and implementation. Manages scope and change throughout the initiative utilizing formal change control and requirements traceability. Gathers and analyzes information and provides recommendations to address strategic business objectives that span multiple, global business and technology areas. Participates in industry forums and keeps current on domain knowledge for their specific business and application areas of expertise. Applies experiences with existing software and/or systems development processes to define and collect metrics and develop better processes to be used in the future. Actively influences software and/or systems development process improvement initiatives. Sets product vision, defines the solution scope and responsible for creating backlog, epics and validating requirements. Sets business strategy by working with business and stakeholders and shares the requirements with the team. Responsible for a particular product and works to grow it from its inception to matured state with the right vision. Contributes to the achievement of related area objectives. Bachelor's degree in business or technical-related discipline, or equivalent work experience required, advanced degree preferred 10-12 years of experience in providing consulting advice to senior IT and business management required, experience in the securities or financial services industry is a plus.Provides expertise for a specific domain within a line of business. Directs and assists team to elicit, challenge, and prioritize requirements, translate into functional design and use case models. Manages the project scope, objectives, constraints and assumptions for a large, strategic, multi-year program.Provides guidance in development of the technical design, test plans, and user documentation. BNY Mellon assesses market data to ensure a competitive compensation package for our employees. The base salary for this position is expected to be between $66,000 and $134,000 per year at the commencement of employment. However, base salary if hired will be determined on an individualized basis, including as to experience and market location, and is only part of the BNYM total compensation package, which, depending on the position, may also include commission earnings, discretionary bonuses, short and long-term incentive packages, and Company-sponsored benefit programs.
This position is at-will and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, change in geographic location, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
