Senior Java Software Engineer

Blackrock is currently seeking a lead developer who is passionate about creating intuitive, high quality software that is efficient to use, visually appealing, and inspires end user delight. The ideal candidate will take great pride in seeing their vision come to life in the hands of a user, be curious, and enjoy working with people that make brave decisions and love to learn new things.

You will be a senior member of a software development team embedded within Global Investment Operations (GIO), developing business-process focused technology solutions to scale its best in class operating platform. You will work closely with Edinburgh-based business users to develop solutions that combine technology, data, and domain expertise to drive exception-based, function-agnostic, service-orientated workflows across GIO's functional areas: Trading & Market Documentation, Transaction Management, Collateral Management, Payments, Corporate Actions, Cash & Asset Operations, and Securities Lending Operations.

  • Building solutions for both BlackRock and over 100 client organizations using the Aladdin ecosystem.
  • Working with leading technologies such as Kafka, Cassandra, Camunda, and a host of other languages and open source technologies.

  • Writing testable software every day, with a focus on incremental innovation.

You have:
  • 8+ years hands-on experience developing complex enterprise software systems.
  • BA/BS in Computer Science from an accredited university
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving and communication skills
  • An ability to translate real business problems into technical solutions
  • A track record of forging strong relationships and building trusted partnerships through open dialogue and continuous delivery
  • Knowledge and experience adhering to software development life cycle best practices including test driven development (TDD), unit testing discipline, agile development and CI/CD strategies.
  • Experience working with teams across different time-zones and countries
  • Strong OO skills and design patterns knowledge and implementation experience using one or more object-oriented languages (e.g. Java, C/C++, Python)
  • Experience building UI components using latest in web technologies (e.g. Angular, React) and languages (e.g. TypeScript)
  • Advanced knowledge and experience developing and working with relational databases (e.g. MySQL, Sybase)
  • Experience developing large-scale distributed software systems and streaming systems using open source distributed frameworks (e.g. Ignite, Kafka) is a plus
  • Experience developing using BPM engines such as Camunda is a plus
