VP, Field Marketing and Evangelism

The VP of Field Marketing & Evangelism is responsible for establishing and leading a new field-based brand marketing function. Beginning in three markets, (San Francisco, Washington DC, New York), this new function will grow Blackbaud’s brand awareness and affinity with new and existing customers, industry and consumer media, and among talented people we seek to add to the Blackbaud team. This position is based in San Francisco, CA and reports to the SVP of Corporate Marketing.


As leader of the national function, this individual will:

  • Establish the Field Evangelism/Marketing blueprint for Blackbaud North America
  • Hire and oversee staff across all markets to successfully implement annual objectives
  • Identify opportunities to further scale model to new markets
  • Build strong relationships with Blackbaud sales leaders and local 3rd party influencers in all territories supported by function; visit territories for coaching and networking
  • Contribute to broader Blackbaud marketing strategy as part of SVP Corp Marketing’s leadership team and Blackbaud’s Global Marketing Leadership Team

As leader of the San Francisco team, this individual will:

  • Serve as chief brand spokesperson in local market
  • Drive the business locally in partnership with the San Francisco sales leader
  • Network and build community among key market influencers and local Blackbaud partners
  • Identify opportunities to support pipeline development
  • Oversee team to prioritize, plan, and conduct engaging community education events
  • Lead marketing team to build and execute local air cover, media and strategic activations
  • Build and implement strategic, local co-branding partnerships that advance the brand
  • Drive local compete marketing; capture competitive intelligence and funnel to other sales/marketing teams at Blackbaud

Required Skills & Experience:

  • 15+ years of industry experience with a Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, or related field (MBA preferred)
  • Leadership experience in the IT/software industry, preferably for a global company
  • Demonstrable experience planning, building and leading a high-performance business from the ground up (scope, budget, roles/responsibilities, metrics/targets, etc.)
  • Has successfully managed a P&L or sizable marketing budget/resource line
  • Experience building and/or leading field marketing and software evangelism functions
  • Experience leading marketing functions that support sales organizations
  • Experience leading or working with product marketing and vertical demand generation teams
  • 10+ years of media relations and spokesperson experience; strong influencer contacts
  • Strong existing relationships with the high-tech, nonprofit, education and/or other social good communities in the Bay Area (relationships also in NY and DC are a plus)
  • Dynamic and engaging presenter, comfortable with audiences of all sizes
  • Demonstrated ability to build relationships with and influence senior leaders
  • Strong EQ and IQ; ability to thoughtfully engage with both technical and non-technical audiences including C-level executives (solution sales or other sales experience preferred)
  • Highly relational; deeply experienced, effective people manager
  • Embraces learning and challenges with an entrepreneurial mindset
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented individual who excels in overseeing successful initiatives
