Senior Medical Director Global Medical Affairs, Lupus

About This Role
The Global Medical Affairs Senior Director, Lupus will serve as a strategic leader and expert partner, driving the medical vision for the development and launch of an investigational therapy for systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and cutaneous lupus erythematosus (CLE). This role is accountable for shaping and executing the Global Medical Strategy, with a focus on improving meaningful patient outcomes. You will lead a team of Medical Directors, guiding successful implementation of strategic program plans, while fostering strong cross-functional collaboration with R&D, Value & Access (V&A), Commercial, and Program Leadership teams. In addition, you will establish and maintain global relationships with key medical experts and ensure that critical medical insights inform evidence generation, scientific communication, and medical education strategies in a prioritized and impactful manner.

What You'll Do
- Strategic Leadership: Develop and lead the global medical strategy for lupus, ensuring alignment with overall R&D and commercial objectives.
- Team Management: Lead and mentor a team of Medical Directors, ensuring high performance, alignment with strategic goals, and a positive team climate in alignment with Biogen's culture.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner closely with internal stakeholders (R&D, Commercial, V&A, Program Leadership) to integrate medical insights into development and launch planning. Represent Global Medical at the cross-functional product development commercialization team and internal governance meetings requiring medical input.
- External Engagement: Establish and nurture global relationships with medical experts, KOLs, and patient advocacy groups to inform strategy and build advocacy.
- Insight Integration: Identify and prioritize key medical insights to guide comprehensive data generation, publications, and educational initiatives.
- Launch Readiness: Drive medical launch preparedness through aligned strategic planning and execution.
- Innovation & Future-Readiness: Act as a forward-thinking innovator who can proactively integrate digital tools and AI-driven solutions into medical launch readiness planning -- enhancing stakeholder engagement, insight generation, and evidence dissemination to position Biogen at the forefront of scientific innovation.
Who You Are
You are a seasoned scientific or clinical professional with a strong passion for science and deep expertise in the Dermatology and/or Rheumatology disease areas. A skilled communicator and collaborative leader, you consistently keep patients, payers and physicians at the center of your work. You thrive on solving complex scientific and business challenges through cross-functional partnership and evidence-driven strategy. You are equally passionate about leading and mentoring high-performing teams, empowering Medical Directors to succeed and grow. You're also comfortable traveling up to 25% of the time to build and sustain relationships with key external stakeholders and medical experts.
Required Skills
- Advanced degree required: MD preferred, PhD or PharmD
- 10+ years' experience in Medical Affairs
- Dermatology and/or Rheumatology expertise required
- Experience and expertise in developing, communicating, and executing comprehensive medical affairs strategy
- Experience in team management, leadership, and mentorship
- Demonstrated the ability to build productive collaborations with medical experts, and existing relationships in the Dermatology and/or Rheumatology area
- Strong working knowledge of US and ex-US regulations as relevant to Medical Affairs
- Ability to be agile, a self-starter, and comfortable operating at times in a setting of ambiguity
- Excellent communication skills: verbal (interpersonal and presentations) and written
- Proven track record of delivering results that meet or exceed targeted objectives
- Ability to travel 25%
Preferred Skills
- Experience with medical launch as well as products at different stages of the lifecycle
- Demonstrated ability to effectively lead and collaborate with global, regional and/or affiliate medical to ensure regional activities are executed in alignment with global medical strategy and ensuring the insights and needs from them are known and properly addressed
- Ability to manage projects and take initiative to solve complex and challenging problems

Additional Information
The base compensation range for this role is: $273,000.00-$376,000.00
Base salary offered is determined through an analytical approach utilizing a combination of factors including, but not limited to, relevant skills & experience, job location, and internal equity.
