Job Description

The Head of Medical Value Strategy and Execution (MVSE) in US Medical reporting to the Head of US Medical is a member of the US Medical Leadership Team. He/ she will also be a member of the Global Medical Health Outcomes Research leadership team. The Head of US MVSE will lead the medical payor engagement strategy across all therapeutic areas and franchises including MS, SMA, AD, pipeline (ALS and Ophthalmology and Lupus in the near term), launch of Biogen Biosimilars in the US. The head of US Medical MVSE will provide overall leadership, strategy and direction for the US Health Outcomes Research & RWE Strategy, across all marketed and pipeline products in the US working closely with Head of US market access and the Global Medical head of Health Outcomes Research, the US Medical Therapeutic Area heads to budget, plan and execute a portfolio of health outcomes research and RWE Strategy projects for Biogen in the US; and translating outcomes into meaningful messages for internal and external stakeholders.  A key area of focus will be to work closely with cross functional partners in the US Medical, US Commercial and Market Access teams as well as with Global Medical Health Outcomes Research in order to demonstrate the value proposition of Biogen medicines and enable optimal market access, reimbursement and brand growth for lifecycle management and ultimately focus on enabling access of key life -saving medications for patients who would benefit from our therapies.

This person will provide leadership and expertise in health outcomes and pharmacoeconomics that resonate with U.S. payors. This person will provide the strategic direction to the development of quality, impactful HEOR and real-world evidence that will be used by Medical Value Liaisons (MVL) to inform payor decision-makers and is ultimately responsible for the Field Medical Value strategy and execution.

Oversee the development of evidence and tools meant to demonstrate drug value, provide support to Key Medical Experts (KMEs) and play a key role in market access negotiations in the US. Lead medical value communications for all products through the MVL team and communicating with KMEs, policymakers and other external stakeholders, and assume responsibility for Biogen’s thought leadership and external visibility in health outcomes research space in the US.

This person will make sure, in partnership with US Commercial and V&A that US medical and payor needs are taken into consideration early in the clinical development planning cycle of the assets in the pipeline (early and late phase). This person will ensure the MVLs have the appropriate resources (Disease state education, economic models, US specific data. prevalence tools, etc.) to be used by MVLs in one of the key customer-facing medical roles in the US. The Head of MVSE will also ensure that the MVL team is working in close partnership with the field-based account management and reimbursement teams.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in health economics, health services research, outcomes research and/or related discipline

• In-depth knowledge of US managed market and the biopharmaceutical industry including R&D, clinical, market access and commercial

• Expertise with pharmacoeconomic analyses, patient-reported outcomes, retrospective and prospective observational studies and their application to evaluate and deliver the value of medicines

• Effective leadership, presiding over meetings and driving consensus decision-making

• Ability to effectively operate in a highly matrixed organization, including excellent interpersonal and management skills through influencing

• Team player

• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects with strong project management abilities (e.g., contracting, budgeting, vendor management)

Education

  • MD, PharmD or PhD
