Job Description

The Affiliate Medical Lead, Estonia sets and provides the strategic direction for affiliate Medical and has overall responsibility for the Medical activities, clinical trials (excl GCO trials), Real World Evidence Projects and medical compliance for all products as appropriate for the given market.

This is a newly created position and as our Affiliate Medical Lead, Estonia you will be accountable for the local Medical strategy and ensure execution as appropriate; build and maintain trusted medical/scientific relationships with health care community stakeholders.

This position is part of the Baltic Operational Team and plays a key role in the design, implementation and deployment of the affiliate strategy with a specific focus on medical activities and will be reporting to the Associate Director Medical Affairs Neurology, Finland and Baltics.

Primary Responsibilities

External stakeholders

  • Establishes the scientific reputation of local Biogen affiliate; develops strong peer-to-peer scientific partnerships with thought leaders in alignment with overall Biogen strategy.
  • Identifies current and future unmet medical needs, building clinical plans to address relevant questions.

Medical plans and activities

  • Leads development of the affiliate medical plan aligned with local, regional and global plans, partnering cross-functionally, including Commercial, Market Access, and Regulatory Affairs, establishes and executes a coherent local business plan that addresses patient needs; identifies measurable goals to insure execution of local medical affairs plan.
  • Identifies need for and lead RWE/Quality Projects in close collaboration with medical and cross-functional teams and clinics/HCP´s
  • Develops and manages budgets for medical activities and provides input into the affiliate budgeting and planning process.
  • Plays a leadership role within Medical including providing best practice sharing across countries, therapeutic areas, products etc.

Partnering with commercial and contribution to the Baltic Operational team (BOT)

  • Partners and collaborates with affiliate commercial and market access to demonstrate medical value of Biogen products relevant to local external stakeholders (payers, HCPs, agencies); may include providing input to all clinical trials (pre and post-marketing), developing and executing phase IVs, registries, etc. (master real-life medicine).
  • Affiliate Medical Lead is a member of the Baltic Operational Team and participates in and contributes to all relevant team meetings. She/he is following the BOT principles in all interactions internally.
  • Works collaboratively and in total alignment with the Commercial, Market Access/PR, Finance and HR heads in clearly defining by BOT the overall company strategy and successfully executing on the company operational plan. Coordinates the medical part of the Business Review Process in Country together with Medical Lead and Managing Director Finland & Baltics.

Partnering within R&D

  • Acts as a local partner for R&D for pipeline and new products.
  • Supports regulatory strategies for registration of new products by providing local expertise.

Governance/compliance

  • Ensure compliance with external laws and internal regulations regarding the appropriate conduct of Affiliate Medical activities.
  • Review of promotional and medical materials in the Affiliate

Qualifications

  • MD degree or other university degree
  • Knowledge and understanding of local health care system / market dynamics, regulations, policies and SOPs
  • Broad experience in interaction with health authorities
  • Demonstrated strategic approach to implementation of scientific communication programs on disease areas and treatments
  • Has demonstrated leadership skills and acquired knowledge and skills/competencies to the degree expected at job level
  • Excellent command of the English and local language, Latvian
  • Experience on working in Pharma industry for more than 4 years
