Better.com is growing, and we’re looking for a Senior Data Engineer to join our Data team. Help us transform a thirteen trillion dollar industry by building a product that will allow more people to own a home and build wealth rather than rent for life. We encourage proposals for projects off the beaten path, experimentation with different frameworks and libraries, and doing as you see fit to solve problems. Our Engineering team is headquartered in NYC. After January 2022, this role will be NYC based. All employees must be US-based.
What you’ll work on:
- Ingesting data, creating and maintaining data pipelines, reports and dashboards that serve a particular business function
- Ensuring purposeful data modeling, data quality, etc. within the domain
- Defining and implementing our processes for maintaining high quality data pipelines and reporting
- Advocating for improvements to data quality, security, and performance
Who you are:
- 4+ years experience in a data analytics, data science, or data engineering role
- An “end-to-end” data engineer who believes in owning the whole stack from data cleaning to dashboard to stakeholder communication
- Proficient in writing analytical SQL and understands the difference between SQL that works, and performant SQL
- Experience working with Python and SQL to generate business insights and drive better organizational decision making (dbt preferred)
- The command line and git
- A solid understanding of data warehouses and business intelligence tools (Looker preferred)
- Clear and direct communication skills about complex technical topics
- Passion for building the best version of whatever you’re working on
- A track record of working autonomously, with strong organizational and time management skills
- A desire to continually keep up with advancements in data (engineering, analytics, science) team practices
