Director of Content

Passionate about content and leading a team to be No. 1? is seeking an innovative editor and executive to be based in New York City to lead its growing content teams across multiple locations and help grow the business through high-quality organic text stories, videos and other formats where consumers engage to make personal finance decisions.

The content director must have a deep understanding and knowledge of how the content consumption ecosystem currently works and is evolving, including the designing of content that leads to monetization. You should deeply understand SEO, social media and content marketing, and their roles in driving effective traffic in relation to stories and other content.

The director must be able to make informed content decisions through data analysis that intersects with content performance through SEO and social media. You must be able to help and lead the team in using data in the story selection process, primarily for SEO, while also being able to use data in the writing of personal finance topics.

The content director works directly with all aspects of the business, including SEO, product, technology, performance marketing, social and others, to create a one-of-a-kind, best-in-class content experience.

The director must be a top-tier editor who can lead a team that creates well-written, smartly produced content that engages consumers about a broad array of personal finance topics, including housing & mortgages, credit cards, banking, savings, retirement planning and other areas.

You should be a team builder who hires and attracts top talent to be the leader in our space while also creating award-winning stories from a developing team. The content should be regularly used by other outlets in syndication efforts, and cited by top tier media brands.

The job requires creativity, passion, leadership and effective storytelling -- all combined with an understanding of technology, data analysis, SEO and a digital business like You should be able to think big and act strategically while also implementing all of the tactics to run an amazing content business.

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Proven track record of great editing and storytellling, for text and video.
  • Knowledge of SEO and social media.
  • Experience working across matrixed organization with multiple stakeholders.
  • Minimum 3 years of management experience leading digital content teams.
  • Personal finance experience preferred.
  • Ability to represent Bankrate at conferences, on panels and with presentations.
  • Ability to interact and be regularly interviewed by media outlets about finance topics.
  • Budget and P&L experience.
  • History of using metrics to drive content decisions.
  • Experience with content automation technologies and freelancers is a plus.
