UNIX Systems Adminstrator
Position for an IT Engineer with specialized focus on Unix/Linux systems to be on the team focused on UNIX Architecture, Tools and Vulnerability management. This is a tier 3 UNIX support position in the UNIX services department under ESS-IT Infrastructure - Cloud Services.
The position requires someone who can design enterprise level solutions and address problem resolution in a large enterprise environment. Candidate should have a solid understanding of security best practices as they apply to the DFARS regulations and STIG guidelines. Experience of the ITIL framework would be helpful.
Activities will include systems design and developing solutions to help automate maintenance and responses to system issues. This position requires interaction with colleagues on the Unix Operations and Workstation support teams to get an understanding of ongoing activities which could benefit from improved automation. It also requires work with IT Staff in other disciplines and with the overall user base to develop and create unique solutions to complex needs.
Demonstrates effective communication with users and other technical staff as this is a critical part of providing timely resolution in a dynamic environment.
Systems Engineering Activities
- Research and identify new solutions that will help meet the goals of system maintenance activities, reducing manual efforts and improving operational efficiencies
- Routine system and patch maintenance
- Develop methods and processes to improve automation of operation support for Unix/Linux Systems
- Technical documentation of systems and solutions
Position will work closely with remote team members to ensure proper monitoring/support. Provide support in resolving incidents and service requests submitted through a ticketing system. Assists level 2 support and other teams to meet customer requests and deadlines
Typical Education & Experience
Typically a Bachelor's Degree and 8 years work experience or equivalent experience
Required Skills and Education
7+ years experience administrating Linux/Unix based systems
3+ years experience with automation and orchestration such as chef, puppet, ansible
Experience with vulnerability management
Familiar with server virtualization
Experience with Solaris containers and LDOMs a plus
