BAE Systems is looking for a Multi-function Technology Development Manager II to join our advanced R&D arm, FAST Labs. The focus of the Technology Development Management career path is the combined technical and programmatic leadership of research and development projects, defining, capturing, and executing contract 6.1, 6.2, and 6.3 research and development programs. Technology Development Managers are expected to combine aspects of Program Managers with aspects of Scientists. Technology Development Managers are expected to grow to become experts whose technical expertise and ability to manage technology development programs is sought out by our customers. Technology Development Managers use their position, reputation, and technical expertise to create research programs that advance technology for purposes of providing discriminating capabilities for BAE Systems. Technology Development Managers focus on 1) leadership of research programs as the principal investigator or as the program manager; 2) the capture of new business opportunities as the technical or programmatic lead; 3) guiding the strategic planning of technology to coordinate investments, captures, and program execution towards overall BAE Systems business objectives; and 4) managing the execution of significant technology development programs that are being readied for transition. Technology Development Managers are expected to have quantitative new business capture objectives, focused on new business pursuits and the capture of follow-up work to the programs efforts they lead. Technology Development Managers are expected to have significant customer interaction, initiating customer contact to create new business opportunities. Technology Development Managers are expected to be entrepreneurial in the creation, shaping, capture, and promotion of CRAD for groundbreaking technologies for current and future BAE Systems products. Technology Development Managers are expected to establish collaboration/transition agreements with Business Areas. Technology Development Managers are expected to provide strategic guidance to programs and to portfolios of programs to align technology development to business needs and to position programs for transition.

Typical Education & Experience
Required Skills and Education
3+ years of research management experience.
Leads design, development and implementation of novel, state-of-the-art solutions to complex technical problems.
Defines, proposes and leads independent research and development.
Collaborates with internal/external customers to align projects for eventual transition.
Independently identifies new business opportunities and marshals resources to capture new business.
Works directly with customers to define new concepts, articulate value of those concepts and builds new programs to develop these concepts.
Expected to have a new business objective to bid and win significant opportunities.
Experienced in multi-function RF and/or multi-spectral technologies.
Experienced in EW, communications, radar and/or signal/image processing technology.
An active US Secret clearance is required.
Preferred Skills and Education
Experience in technical leadership for a project and is the technical face to the customer.
Experience in guiding teams in executing complex research plans regularly involving multiple technical fields.
Performing role of Principal Investigator for a complex research effort (10+ people)
Co-authored/authored external publications.
Contributes to/participates in professional societies.
