Technical Writer/Editor

Job Description
The selected candidate will work in a team environment with experienced professionals to develop and/or edit technical documents such as engineering reports, monthly status reports, technical procedure manuals, user/service manuals, operational specifications, and related technical publications to clearly and effectively communicate technical data, specs, and instructions to a wide range of audiences. Acquires subject knowledge by working directly with engineers, analysts, technicians and management team, referring to technical specifications, drawings, and engineering illustrations.

Tasks will include but are not limited to the following:

  • Edit deliverables for proper grammar, spelling, punctuation, and readability
  • Edit documentation including work instructions, technical reports, technical manuals, test procedures and other types of technical documentation
  • Run daily/weekly/monthly queries from a database to manage contract deliverables
  • Collect data, analyze data, and write monthly contract status reports
  • Process approved documents and deliver to customer
  • Collect data from/Enter data into the following:
  • Naval Systems Data Support Activity (NSDSA)
  • Technical Data Management Information System (TDMIS)
  • Naval Air Technical Data and Engineering Service Center (NATEC)
  • Naval Logistics Library {NLL)
  • Assist other team members as tasked
  • This position is located in scenic and historic Southern Maryland in the St. Mary's County Technology Corridor at Patuxent River Naval Air Station Webster Outlying Field.

    There is no monetary relocation assistance budgeted for this position. Applicants must be currently residing in or state willingness to relocate self to St. Mary's County, Maryland or surrounding areas.

    Typical Education & Experience
    Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in English, Journalism, Technical Writing, or Education and at least one years of experience writing/editing various types of documents (Another degree discipline with a minor in English and at least one years of experience writing/editing various types of documents may be substituted)

    Required Skills and Education
    Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in English, Journalism, Technical Writing, or Education and at least one years of experience writing/editing various types of documents (Another degree discipline with a minor in English and at least one years of experience writing/editing various types of documents may be substituted)

    Experience with Adobe Acrobat and Microsoft Office, specifically Word, Excel, Outlook, and Access

    Ability to obtain and maintain the required security clearance

    Ability to work independently or in a team environment
    Ability to manage a high volume workload / highly organized
    Clear and effective written and verbal communication skills
