Systems Administrator

Supports the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) by preforming maintenance and sustainment of systems supporting the Transitional Hawaii Network – Operations (HNS-OPS) information transfer capabilities to the DoD and other authorized agencies within the State of Hawaii, to include support to other designated Pacific locations such as Wake Island, Singapore, Kwajalein and Australia. Performs a variety of difficult assignments associated with monitoring and controlling computer operating systems. Supervises and manages the daily activities of configuration and operation of business systems. Optimizes system operation and resource utilization, and performs system capacity analysis and planning. Provides assistance to users in accessing and using business systems. Sets up and maintains more than one type of computer system such as Open VMS Systems/DSM environments, UNIX systems (SCO and SUN), and Windows NT systems. Analyzes system faults and troubleshoots and runs diagnostic tests on operating systems and hardware to detect problems. Evaluates and installs developed software during various phases of testing. Reviews and prepares documentation for systems, tests and installation of software. Investigates and recommends methods and techniques for obtaining solutions. Initiates preventive maintenance on the operating systems as well as repair to system/environment problems. Administers systems/environment solutions for multiple projects with varying schedules. Interfaces with vendors for trouble calls. Supports the planning of system/environment requirements for individual projects. May provide work direction and guidance to others.

Minimum Education and Experience Bachelor’s Degree and 5 years work experience or equivalent experience Required Skills and Education – Hold and maintain a DoD-8570 baseline certification (CompTIA A+ (CE), Network+ (CE), Security+ (CE), GSEC, SSCP, CCNA-Security, CISSP or equivalent)

  • Ability to support the HNS-OPS network management system.
  • Ability to work in a team focused, dynamic environment.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Hold, or is eligible to obtain, a security clearance with an Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI).

Preferred Skills and Education Other related system and networking certifications such as Microsoft, Cisco, or ITIL.
