Structured Cable Technician

Provides support and continuity to customers and users on a world-wide basis to achieve system readiness. Support includes technical assistance/advice, user formal and informal OJT training, technical data collection and reporting, operating systems expert on vehicles, act as the first point of contact for field problem identification and accident investigations.

Provides technical assistance during testing, troubleshooting, repairing, de-processing, storing and assistance in shipping vehicles and their respective components during transition, OJT training, and unit hand-off. Training consists of system operation, assembly and subassembly troubleshooting, component and system fault isolation and repair.

  • -Provides on-site marketing of weapons systems and company services and capabilities.
  • - Interfaces directly with customer and user, achieving satisfactory level of responsiveness.
  • - Operates, troubleshoot and repairs weapons systems, interfaces with the government, the military, and internal company organizations, as required, to provide necessary information/data.
  • - Identifies and executes appropriate requirements for a field office/site.
  • - Performs and/or reports on performance of LOB product line.
  • - Assures conformance to test plans and provides field support.
  • - Collects, records and provides data to home office to Quality and RAM standards.
  • - Coordinates test and test results with Engineering.
  • - Develops and conducts vehicle and component formal and informal training programs.
  • - Develops and conducts vehicle and component formal and informal training programs.
  • - Liaises with customers, users and LOB personnel.
  • - Works within contract/budget restraints and scope of work.
  • - Provides technical guidance and advice to the customer.

  • - Travels any place, at any time, including adverse conditions, relocating on short notice to support assignment.
  • - Maintains a safe work environment and ensures compliance with safety objectives and policies.
  • - Shares responsibility of self-development with immediate supervisor. Required Skills and Education Required education: Associates degree, or military school training; plus additional two years work experience in the mechanical/electrical/electronics field of relevant military products and able to read and understand cable drawings and diagrams.
  • -Installation of outlets, pulling cable, fire stopping and pre-termination including organizing, forming, dressing and labeling cables to industry standards
  • -Terminate, assemble and install 8-pin modular connectors and coaxial connectors, light crimp connectors and optical fiber ST and/or SC ceramic connectors
  • -Accurately test copper and fiber (multimode and single mode) cables to required certification parameters utilizing appropriate test equipment as required
  • -Diagnose and correct copper and optical fiber problems
  • -Removal and demolition of abandoned cables
  • -Determine closet and equipment layouts and install closet hardware including backboards, connecting blocks, racks, patch panels and fiber enclosures, and balance video equipment
  • -Perform cable splices for copper and optical fiber (mechanical and fusion)
  • -Identify active circuits
  • -Attend training and safety meetings. Work safely at all times utilizing the necessary Personal Protection Equipment.
  • -Knowledge of military maintenance systems (all levels of repair).
  • -Knowledge of appropriate technical manuals and engineering data. Must be able to interpret and use all types of engineering drawings and schematics.
  • -Detail understanding of system troubleshooting techniques.
  • -Familiar with the use and operation of TMDE (Test Measurement) type diagnostic equipment.
  • -Technically proficient in weapons systems operation, mechanics and electronics. Experience in the mechanical/electronic field of relevant military products; technical knowledge depth must be first through fourth level of maintenance repair.
  • -Basic computer skills.
  • -Understanding of the military structure.
  • -Proficiently use all types of hand tools, shop tools, including micrometers, depth gages and finish gages.
  • -Use all types of power tools, lifting devices, carrying or support equipment in a safe/sure manner.
  • -Be able to develop and present vehicle and component formal and informal training programs.
  • -Effective interpersonal and communication skills. Preferred Skills and Education Specialized technical knowledge of relevant military design standards for military style cables.
