Sr Principal Research Engineer

BAE Systems is looking for a highly experienced Research Engineer to work with team members and other performers to design, integrate, debug and test complex prototype systems. The work will be conducted at BAE Systems Technology Solutions division where our primary customers are DARPA and other Government organizations. Responsibilities include individual technical contribution on a related range of programs, system development, test planning and execution in a field deployment environment. Much of the work will be performed in the context of small teams consisting of other engineers and academically strong assistant researchers.

Technical: Leads or is a primary contributor in an area of technical expertise such as: Firmware, hardware, software, system integration, test, etc. Develops systems-level requirements. Performs systems-level integration/testing. Prepares documentation for system designs and architectures in accordance with established systems development processes and procedures. Verifies and validates aspects of system designs to ensure conformance with functional specifications and customer requirements. Will be expected to independently formulate and implement complex system solutions.

Business Development: Supports business development efforts. Generates ideas for potential proposals. Key contributor to new proposals.

Position will have broad exposure to interdisciplinary work. Position functions across multiple related projects. Work performed is considered complex within the spectrum of the discipline and in many cases takes into account concepts from other disciplines. Exercises broad discretion and independent judgment in project work. Will be expected to independently develop novel approaches to assignments.

Minimum Education and Experience Bachelor’s Degree and 12 years work experience or equivalent experience Required Skills and Education Required education: Master Degree or Bachelor Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related discipline and 12+ years experience.

An active US Top Secret clearance is required. SCI eligibility is also strongly desired.

Technical Skills/Experiences (at least two required): Firmware development (XILINX or Altera preferred), hardware development, modeling and simulation development, laboratory and field testing, digital signal processing, systems architecture, ICD or protocol analysis and development, interoperability and reverse engineering experience.

Highly developed interpersonal skills for interfacing, coordinating and negotiating with company personnel, internal and external customers, suppliers and other performers.

Strong computer skills for preparing appropriate reports and technical documents : MATLAB, LaTeX, MS Word/ Excel/ Powerpoint, etc.

Demonstrated sound judgment while complying with policies, procedure appropriate principles and applicable state and federal laws and regulations

Solid track record including analyzing, evaluating, developing and implementing processes and systems within budget and adherent to time requirements and schedule

Excellent oral and written communication skills. Experienced and comfortable with briefing external customers and other large technical audiences.

Preferred Skills and Education Experience with system of systems approaches.

DoDAF understanding.

Familiarity with Customer missions.

Customer interaction experience.

Field test planning and/or test range experience is a plus.
