Sr. Hardware Engineer

Job Description
Are you a Hardware Systems Engineer or have experience in computing and storage technology or hardware infrastructure services, and can develop system requirements? If so, we need you to serve as the Lead High Performance Computer (HPC) Engineer working on a critical and exciting program. As a Lead HPC Engineer, you will work with Program Directors, Test Engineers, and HPC System Architects to understand customer needs and gather, develop, and refine high-level requirements for HPC capabilities. You will serve as a critical team member, providing stewardship of customer requirements associated with hardware design. Your strong background in hardware computing technology will help identify requirements to drive a robust and compliant hardware infrastructure design.


  • Gain an understanding of program needs
  • Develop system requirements associated with the hardware design
  • Serve as the custodian for hardware system requirements using various application
  • Be familiar with and able to apply HPC programming applications and monitoring tools
  • Apply SAFe Agile practices
  • Perform cross team coordination with Project Lead, Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, Hardware Engineering (Infrastructure Service Provider), Test, and the deployment team
  • Conduct trade studies to evaluate hardware options

Typical Education & Experience
Typically a Bachelor's Degree and 8 years work experience or equivalent experience

Required Skills and Education
  • Strong High Performance and Computing experience
  • Experience working with storage systems
  • Ability to work in a flexible team environment
  • Deep understanding and ability to apply Agile methodologies
  • Practical knowledge of Atlassian tool suite, including Jira, Confluence, etc.
  • Experience with HPC programming applications
  • Cluster configuration and deployment experience
  • Experience with FOSS monitoring and metrics tool suites
  • Experience setting up and configuring various hardware technologies
  • Experience creating VMs
Preferred Skills and Education
  • Experience with HPC programming applications to include: ZooKeeper, Kafka, Apache NiFi, Apache Mesos, InfiniBand interconnect, GPFS, and GPU/CUDA programming is desired
  • ZooKeeper cluster configuration and deployment
  • Experience with Apache Hadoop, Apache Spark, and Elasticsearch
  • Docker Container VM creation
  • Familiar with Analytic Modeling/Data Science is a plus
