Space Systems - Engineer Senior Industrial

Job Description

This position will report to the BAE Systems, Space Systems Technical Operations Manager in Manassas, Virginia. The team supports three different focus factories in the facility. First there is the Component Packaging and Test Manufacturing line that produces radiation hardened microprocessors, memory devices and custom ASICs for the Space community. There is a new Microwave Module Assembly and Test line which produces microwave assemblies that support Identify Friend or Foe products delivered internally to our Tactical Systems product line. Lastly, there is the Circuit Card Assembly line that produces a variety of space grade CCAs and boxes to the space community for commercial, civil and defense users. The team you will join is highly technical and experienced and is a welcoming team environment which will ensure learning and growth.

This position will focus on projects across all three focus factories (Components, Microwave and CCA) with a potential for a fourth focus factory design and build. The projects focusing on a general nature of factory modernization and capability expansion, specifically including; new tool selection, validation, qualification and deployment; overall facilities rearrangement to improve flow, efficiency and capacity; and projects around improvement of process control and repeatability. Product focused tasks will be Continuous Improvement in nature focusing on quality improvement, cost improvement, and lead time improvement. New products will be assessed in the capacity of New Product Introduction (NPI) which ensures efficient manufacturability commensurate with the existing or planned factory capabilities.

The corporate general description of Industrial Engineering responsibilities are; Analyzes and designs sequence of operations and work flow to improve efficiencies in plant and production facilities and equipment layouts, and establishes methods for maximum utilization of production facilities and personnel. May establish or assist in establishing accident prevention measures and manage training programs for personnel concerning all phases of production operations. Conducts studies pertaining to cost control, cost reduction, inventory control, and production record systems.

Typical Education & Experience

Typically a Bachelor's Degree and 4 years work experience or equivalent experience

Required Skills and Education

Strong and demonstrated ability to lead an Operations project team and ability to collaborate with project Stakeholders

Experience in electronics manufacturing

Strong communication skills written, oral and formal presentation

Ability to travel to benchmark capabilities within BAE Systems factories, industry trade shows and conferences and equipment vendors for demonstrations, etc.

Preferred Skills and Education

Prefer education in Mechanical or Manufacturing or Industrial Engineering (or equivalent)

Experience in electronics manufacturing of space grade hardware

Lean/Six Sigma Black Belt Certification

Experience in manufacturing facility layout, optimization and capital expenditure projects

Knowledge of current and cutting edge technologies in equipment and manufacturing systems for electronics manufacturing
