Software Engineer II

BAE Systems is seeking a highly motivated Electrical/Computer/Software Engineer to join the Air Traffic Control (ATC) Landing Systems program, supporting code 4.11.7, to contribute in developing and sustaining the Joint Precision and Approach Landing System (JPALS) program. The selected candidate will work in a military research & development, test & evaluation facility.

The selected candidate will be challenged to modify real-time software programmed in the C and C++ languages and present his or her solutions to software review teams. The primary duties of this job include:

1. Software Development – Perform and direct technical analysis required during the JPALS block 1 software development phases.

2. Software Maintenance – Support the software development and design by maintaining contractor developed JPALS software.

3. Quality Assurance – Provide authoritative input and advice on the JPALS software engineering and technical issues and ensure JPALS systems software engineering requirements are met.

4. Acquisition – Perform system software engineering functions to support the JPALS software acquisition.

5. Integration – Assist the JPALS software project leaders in the preparation, planning and development of integrated logistics support plans for software-intensive systems.

This job requires an aptitude for designing software and hardware together. It requires the ability to analyze data and signals from various computer boards and communication interfaces, and occasionally designing test fixtures and prototypes.

Additional tasks include participating in technical meetings, requirements analysis, and performing system verifications. Engineering teams travel (<10%) to locations in support of system verification efforts in the operational environment.

Thisposition is located in scenic and historic Southern Maryland in the St. Mary’sCounty Technology Corridor adjacent to the Patuxent River Naval AirStation.

Minimum Education and Experience Bachelor’s Degree and 2 years work experience Required Skills and Education Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Software Engineering and a m inimum of 2 years of software development experience

Strong understanding of software design principles

Experience programming in C or C++

Experience with digital signal processing and statistical data analysis methods

Strong written and verbal communication skills

Ability to obtain and maintain the required security clearance

Preferred Skills and Education Experience with object-oriented programming concepts

Experience with DoD avionics software and graphical user interface (GUI) areas with C/C++

Experience with MATLAB and Simulink

Experience with JAVA programming language
