Job Description
CLASSIFICATION SUMMARY

Possess a working knowledge of government/industrial tool room, supply and warehousing procedures. Follow detailed written and verbal procedures to order, receive, inventory, store and issue special tools, parts and materials in support of aviation maintenance activity. Interface with Maintenance Control and Supply Warehouse for requisitioning of special tools, parts and materials. Service and maintain tools and equipment. Issue special tools to technicians using established tool control procedures. Participate in Hazardous Materials Program to include receipt, storage, shipping and elimination of HAZMAT waste in accordance with federal, state and company regulations. Ensure proper turn-in of retrograde parts. Participate in tool calibration and certification process.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform tasks as assigned by Division Manager, Foreman, Leadman/Property Control Coordinator in accordance with instructions, applicable technical data, manuals and directives.
  • Comply with all applicable programs including Safety, Foreign Object Damage (FOD), Hazardous Communications Program, Corrosion Control and Tool Control Program.
  • Comply with all established general and industrial safety rules and regulations as applicable to the contract, site and work center.
  • Assist as directed to ensure safety, security and preservation of government/company owned equipment.
  • Issue tools and parts as required.
  • Issue repair orders for parts and material support.
  • Maintain pre-expended bin (PEB) material in support of aircraft and aircraft component maintenance.
  • Input data into computerized system to effectively control parts, materials and tracking of man-hours.
  • Research parts for alternate part numbers, superseded part numbers or next higher assembly.
  • Verify the accuracy of data on "Scheduled Removal Cards", Engine, Propeller Logbooks, "Ready for Issue" and "Unserviceable" tags for materials issued and received.
  • Assist as required during property/material audits and inventories.
  • Ensure all tools are properly returned to the tool room at the end of each shift, immediately reporting all missing and damaged tools in accordance with tool control procedures.
  • Perform minor repairs of special tools.
  • Perform and ensure hydraulic sampling requirements are met.
  • Operate forklift.
  • Assist in VIDS Board Verification.
  • May require Collateral Duty Inspector (CDI) authorization.
  • May require Ordnance Certification.

  • Provide technical assistance, guidance and instruction as required.
  • Participate in the proper maintenance and cleanliness of spaces and facilities.
  • Cooperate with government, military and company personnel in courteous, professional and effective manner.
  • Make recommendations to management to improve productivity, increase efficiencies and/or cut costs.
  • Work harmoniously with other employees promoting teamwork and cooperation.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned .


  • Required Skills and Education
    CLASSIFICATION QUALIFICATIONS:

    Knowledge:

    Posses a working knowledge of government/industrial Tool Room/Material Control procedures, safety procedures and aviation supply. Must be able to read and interpret parts catalogs and operate computer. Must be able to follow written procedures for ordering, receiving, issuing, securing, maintaining and inventorying tools and special equipment. Must have the ability to identify, inventory, issue and control a wide variety of parts, materials, tools and equipment utilized in aircraft maintenance. Must be able to read, write, understand and communicate the English language and follow and administer verbal and written instruction.

    EDUCATION/LICENSES:

    Graduation from high school or (GED). Satisfactory completion of U.S. Armed Forces material control courses or civilian equivalent curriculum, or one (1) year experience in aviation supply required. Requires valid driver's license. Must be able to pass any Government/company licensing/qualification requirements for the position including forklift and ordnance certification.

    EXPERIENCE:

    Must have three (3) years general tool room experience or one (1) year military/civilian aviation tool room experience. Computer data entry skills required.

    PHYSICAL EFFORT:

    Requires sitting, standing and walking for extended periods of time. Requires frequent climbing of stairs and ladders, bending, stooping, squatting, crawling, crouching, kneeling, lifting, carrying, balancing and reaching above shoulder level, pushing or pulling weight up 50 pounds. Requires substantial use of upper and lower extremities to drag, haul or tug objects in a sustained motion. Requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity. Requires corrected vision to include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Requires hearing to normal range.

    WORKING CONDITIONS:

    Requires shift work and a diversity of working conditions that range from a standard shop/office environment, where there is no physical discomfort, to an environment where inclement weather may subject individual to severe changes in temperature, direct sun, wind, rain, etc. May be required to work in areas where noise hazards are prevalent.

    Potential Hazards: Exposure to high intensity noise levels. May be required to handle hazardous materials identified on Material Safety Data Sheets. Will be required to wear Personal Protective Equipment.

    Work Location: Office spaces, aircraft maintenance shops, hangars and flight line. May require travel in support of detachments of unknown duration.
