Senior Systems Engineer

Job Description

BAE Systems' F-35 Lightning II program has an exciting opportunity for a senior systems engineer to assist in the design, development, documentation, management, execution, and delivery of prognostic tools for the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter. The tools use algorithms and other data analysis methods to trend and predict when maintenance should be accomplished on the aircraft.

Job duties include program planning and execution, creating and maintaining program level and system/software engineering documentation, and includes leading design reviews, data presentations and reporting. Candidate will be responsible for leading team members with requirement decomposition and analysis, software architecture design/mechanization, development/coding, test, maintenance, and documentation of developed software. Candidate will be responsible for ensuring quality assurance standards are met across the team.

Typical Education & Experience

Bachelor's Degree and 5 years work experience or equivalent experience

Required Skills and Education

The position requires a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college / university in a related discipline, or equivalent experience/combined education, with 2 years of professional experience.

Required Skills:

• Systems Engineer Skills

o Must have experience executing the full lifecycle of a software development program, preferably using an Agile development methodology.

o Must perform system engineering functions such as managing system level requirements, analyzing operational systems concepts, originating design concepts, developing and analyzing data analysis methods, or performing systems level integration and tests.

o Must have the ability to provide technical assessments on aircraft components and on data processing performance

o Must translate customer needs into reporting and capability requirements through military standard requirement decomposition methods.

o Must be able to manage requirements in IBM DOORS.

o Must have experience working with Prognostics Health Data, Sensor Data, and Algorithms used to perform condition based maintenance.

o Requires a Strong Mathematical Background

• Stochastic statistical methods are most desirable.

• Must understand different methods to model system behavior

o Requires the ability to understand the integration of electronics into mechanical structures

o Must have experience producing and maintaining Contract Data Requirements Lists (CDRLs).

o Must understand the techniques to determine the quality of aircraft data

• Communication Skills

o Must create and maintain technical documentation and templates using industry and company accepted methods

o Must possess strong organizational skills.

o Must have excellent oral and written communications skills strong analytical, organizational, and interpersonal skills; and proficiency with various types of test equipment and software packages.

o Must create and maintain an Integrated Master Schedules (IMS), Microsoft Project Microplans, and Version One storyboards for all team members.

• Customer Skills

o Must perform site operations, installations, and integration and validation support activities at customer locations.

o Must act as the liaison between the customer and team members

o Must lead and support customer events, including kick-off meetings, design reviews, requirement baseline and testing milestone events, product demonstrations, and contract close-outs.

• Project Management Skills

o Must have project management experience via PMP training, or by performing project management for 2+ years in the workplace.

o Must be able to represent multiple program teams during EAC reviews and during EVMS activities, including providing ETCs, cost/schedule variances, and MR input.

o Must provide project engineering support, including project planning and execution, and resource planning and profiling.

o Must be able to represent multiple program teams, and multiple contract line items during BOE bidding activities.

o Must be able to perform Risk Management using the ARM tool.

• Leadership Skills

o Must have over 2 years technical lead experience of complex, multi-discipline work groups or program teams in excess of 10 engineers.

o Must be willing to work extended hours during mission critical time periods.

o Must be a self-starter, and require little direction to complete tasks

o Must provide quality assurance, configuration management, and data management assistance, guidance, and expertise as necessary

o Prior experience with a variety of Military systems; Foreign and Domestic

o Must have ability to lead data analysts and engineers, and to determine the most efficient methods to develop tools, while maintaining accuracy

Preferred Skills and Education

o Proficient with AS9100, ISO9001, CMMI, and/or military standards and protocols

o Proficient with Microsoft Project, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Visio.

o Solid Understanding of Configuration Management techniques using Serena Dimensions, GIT or Subversion

o Significant System Knowledge with F-35 Air Vehicle Prognostics Data and Signal Data used for condition based maintenance

• Technical Skills

o Candidate would preferably have aeronautical engineering experience, including training in structural analysis, flight dynamics, aerodynamics, aircraft design, flight controls, propulsion systems, advanced materials, electrical and mechanical engineering, and systems engineering.

o Candidate would preferably have development, production, and supply chain knowledge and experience.

o Experience leading and working with foreign teams
