Senior Research Engineer

Drawing from various disciplines, including estimation, optimization, probability, and control theory, the Tracking and Fusion Technologies Directorate advances the state-of-the-art in automated sensor control and data processing. We develop object tracking and information fusion technologies for video and radar data, and control technologies that task sensors to maximize the value of information they collect.

TFT engineers cover the full spectrum of research and development: a program might start with the mathematical formulation of an idea, followed by prototyping in MATLAB, implementation in C++, integration with sensor systems, and finally with field testing of the full system. We encourage staff to get involved in any aspect of our programs that might interest them, from publishing results in academic journals to getting flight certified to test our airborne systems. Minimum Education and Experience Bachelor’s Degree and 5 years work experience or equivalent experience Required Skills and Education Master Degree with three years experience, or PhD

Experience developing software, system, and/or algorithm requirements, designs, and code for highly complex software systems within budget and schedule. Experience using state-of-the-art technology, principles, and concepts. Experience with software and system development lifecycle and development processes and procedures. Experience communicating effectively both orally and in writing. Experience interfacing, coordinating and negotiating with company personnel and customers.

Preferred Skills and Education Preferred skills include:

Degrees in Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, Engineering or related field

  • Familiarity with scientific computing in Java, C++, Python, preferably in Linux
  • Understanding of probability, statistics, estimation, optimization, and control theory
  • Conference or Journal publications
  • Experience with system engineering processes

Previous success in these types of activities is a plus, but is not necessarily required for the available positions (especially for candidates early in their career).
