Senior Mechanical Engineer

BAE Systems is looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer that aspires to specialize in RF Phased-Array and RF Electronics Packaging. Qualified candidates will have demonstrated experience in some aspect of Electronics Design preferably with an ME/EE interdisciplinary background. The individual will be multi-disciplined and provide in-depth technical expertise for the complete mechanical packaging solutions from chip level design through complete RF antenna systems in support of IRAD and advanced technology programs.

Researches, plans, designs and develops mechanical products and systems such as instruments, controls, robots, engines, machines and mechanical, thermal hydraulic or heat transfer systems for production, transmission, measurement, and use of energy. Applies research to the planning, design, development, and testing of mechanical and/or electromechanical systems, instruments, controls, engines, and/or machines.

Minimum Education and Experience Bachelor’s Degree and 5 years work experience or equivalent experience Required Skills and Education Coordinate the fabrication and environmental testing of design hardware. Design and procure prototype hardware. Coordinate the environmental testing of hardware including: vibration, shock, thermal, fatigue and others as required. Review and document results. Generate, review and approve the technical content of drawings, engineering specifications, reports and other documentation associated with the mechanical design. Prepare design review packages and present for internal review. This position will provide “hands-on” technical design leadership and support projects using ProEngineer (CREO) CAD Software for design, and Ansys Multi-Physics analysis software for first order thru advanced thermal analysis. Experience with CFD and FEM analysis tools and experimental validation is also required. Requires a BS with 4+ years of experience, MS with 2+ years of experience or PhD with 1+ years of experience. Preferred Skills and Education Expertise in low loss, high density RF signal distribution in a challenging thermal environment is desirable. This critical skill requires a working knowledge of advanced heat transfer/cooling design and analysis. Experience and understanding of single phase and two phase liquid cooled systems is preferred . Experience in the design and investigation of flow and conjugate heat transfer in the micro channel-based heat sinks is also preferred. Understanding of chip scale electronics and the design and manufacturing techniques of multi-chip modules is desirable. Understanding of basic microwave wave antenna principles is a plus as is familiarity with modeling tools such as HFSS, SONNET or Microwave Office.
