Senior Mechanical Engineer
The individual selected for this position will be an experienced mechanical engineer with diverse technical capabilities to execute mechanical design and development work on projects, proposals, and research efforts. Individual must possess strong mechanical engineering skills with experience in electronic packaging and integrated assemblies designed for military environments and applications. Responsibilities associated with this role include the following:
Product Design & Development : Interpretation of system specifications to establish mechanical design requirements, develop hardware designs from conceptual layouts through detailed design using Pro-Engineer. Conduct design trade studies, integrate component hardware into subsystems, develop and integrate new technologies and processes into current designs, oversee the preparation and release of design documentation, and optimize design solutions to ensure producible solutions. The selected individual will also prepare and conduct internal peer reviews and formal design reviews with both internal and external customers.
Mechanical Analyses : Perform engineering analyses of mechanical designs to assess functional behavior, component material selection, geometric dimensions and tolerances, and compliance with thermal and structural requirements. Evaluate and resolve issues requiring a broad knowledge of engineering principles including thermodynamics and structural/stress.
Hardware Fabrication and Test : Direct and oversee the fabrication of prototype and qualification hardware. Provide engineering support to operations in the build of production hardware. Develop test plans and conduct laboratory testing to demonstrate concept feasibility or validate compliance with performance/environmental requirements. Prepare test reports to document the findings and conclusions of hardware test efforts. Provide technical direction and support to resolve design and related manufacturing issues.
The selected candidate will be a self-motivated team player who is proven to be effective in a fast-paced multi-disciplinary technical environment. This individual will also possess strong oral and written communication skills to effectively work in an Integrated Product Team (IPT) environment, lead small development teams, and present technical information clearly and concisely in meetings and reviews.
Typical Education & Experience
Typically a Bachelor's Degree and 6 years work experience or equivalent experience
Required Skills and Education
- BS Mechanical Engineering and 6+ years work related experience or MS Mechanical Engineering and 4+ years work related experience.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a US DoD Secret security clearance, US Citizenship required.
- Strong computer skills in basic Office, Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and MCAD software.
- Solid mechanical engineering design and analytical fundamentals, demonstrated technical leadership skills and strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Prior related design experience for DoD military developmental engineering programs.
- Computer skills using Pro-E MCAD software and Siemens NX Nastran software.
- Ability to travel domestically and/or internationally as required to meet business or customer objectives.
- MS Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- Current Secret security clearance.
