SCA Engineering Technician III

Job Description

The selected candidate will have the following duties and responsibilities:

a. Constructs components, sub-units, or simple models or adapts standard equipment; may troubleshoot and correct malfunctions
b. Follows specific layout and scientific diagrams to construct and package simple devices and sub-units of equipment
c. Conducts various tests or experiments which may require minor modifications in test setups or procedures as well as subjective judgments in measurement, selecting, preparing, and operating standard test equipment and recording test data
d. Extracts and compiles a variety of engineering data from field notes, manuals, lab reports, etc., processing data, identifying errors or inconsistencies, selecting methods of data presentation
e. Assists in design modification by compiling data related to design, specifications, and materials that are pertinent to specific items of equipment or component parts; develops information concerning previous operational failures and modifications, and uses judgment and initiative to recognize inconsistencies or gaps in data and seek sources to clarify information

Will receive initial instructions, equipment requirements, and advice from supervisor or engineer as needed and will perform recurring work independently. Work is reviewed for technical adequacy or conformity with instructions.

This position is located in scenic and historic Southern Maryland in the St. Mary's County Technology Corridor adjacent to the Patuxent River Naval Air Station. There is no monetary relocation assistance budgeted for this position. Applicants must be currently residing in or state willingness to relocate self to St. Mary's County, Maryland or surrounding areas.

Required Skills and Education

High school diploma and at least six years of related experience

Ability to use various power tools including drills, drill presses, core drills, saws, equipment to pull cable, vacuums, an assortment of wire cutters and strippers, soldering irons, high-press tools, voltage meters, ammeters and ohmmeters

Ability to use Microsoft Office, Excel and Word

Ability to read and interpret drawings/blue prints and perform work to specifications

Ability to obtain and maintain the required security clearance

Ability and willingness to be the lead for a small group of lower level technicians

Ability to pass and maintain cable fabrication certification (must be able to distinguish colors)

Preferred Skills and Education

Experience with Cable Fabrication IAW MIL-STD2003-5

Familiarity with Fiber Optic Cable Fabrication IAW MIL-STD2042

Experience with the integration of electrical equipment and cables into electrical cabinets

Ability to ensure all bonding is IAW MIL-STD1680 and MIL-STD1310

Willingness to travel as required to support the fleet

Capable of lifting 50lbs
