Radar Systems Electronic Technician III

The selected candidate maintains and tests military AIMS MK XIIA IFF electronic systems. The selected candidate will be responsible for system integration, test and evaluation, in-service engineering support, repair and validation, installations, and lab maintenance, on ships and shore stations.
The selected candidate will exercise independent judgment in performing such tasks as the planning, layout, test, troubleshooting, modification and repair of The AN/UPX-29(V) Identification Friend or Foe System. Work may be reviewed by supervisor for general compliance with accepted practices and may provide technical guidance to lower level technicians.
Sets up and operates a wide variety of testing equipment, improvising hook-up and equipment modifications as necessary to test, adjust, align, calibrate and modify circuitry, components, systems or subsystems, ensuring consistency with applicable Work Instructions Quality control Inspection Procedures, and technical manuals. Work typically requires a detailed understanding of the interrelationships of circuits and requires the ability to read schematics and follow work instructions and test procedures.
Applies advanced technical knowledge to solve unusually complex problems that typically cannot be solved solely by referencing manufacturers' manuals or similar documents. The selected candidate performs a variety of complex functional and operational tests on developmental electronic systems, subsystems and assemblies in accordance with generally established procedures and data sheets. Performs other duties and responsibilities as required.
Candidate will travel 20 - 30% of the time to assist with shipboard/shore based system installations and test events. Tasking will involve, but not limited to, climbing aloft to perform antenna maintenance and lifting/ carrying heavy objects.
Candidate will travel to ship location and complete assigned tasks: this may require extended hours or weekends to support installations and test events.
This position is located in scenic and historic Southern Maryland in the St. Mary's County Technology Corridor adjacent to the Patuxent River Naval Air Station.
There is no monetary relocation assistance budgeted for this position. Applicants must be currently residing in or state willingness to relocate self to St. Mary's County, Maryland or surrounding areas.
Required Skills and Education
High School diploma and at least 8 years of related experience
Ability to obtain / maintain the required security clearance
Ability to follow engineering drawings, change orders, work instructions, and test procedures
Experience using computers, Windows OS, MS Word, and MS Excel
Ability to climb aloft for antenna maintenance and lift/carry heavy objects
Radar and digital electronics experience
Preferred Skills and Education
Associate degree in Electronic Engineering Technology
Certified Solder Technician specializing in SMT, lead free and through hole
Certified Quality Assurance Inspector
Cable fabrication certification
Knowledge of ISO, Lean Six Sigma, and/or best practices
Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) - Maritime (OSHA 1915) training
Military Electronics Technician "A" school
Navy Enlisted Classification 1571 (V06B) and 1572 (V07B)
Experience with shipboard systems
