Pulsed Power Principal Electrical Engineer

Job Description

BAE Systems is looking for a Principal Electrical Engineer with experience in high voltage electromagnetic systems. The qualified candidate will work under general direction of a project engineering lead to perform electrical system design, high voltage pulsed power system development, and laboratory testing. The Electrical Engineer provides detailed electrical engineering analysis of components and subsystems for military applications. Applies sound engineering skills, analysis, and judgment to resolve conflicting requirements.

Typical Education & Experience

Typically a Bachelor's Degree and 6 years work experience or equivalent experience

Required Skills and Education

  • Demonstrated experience developing analog and digital circuit designs, fabrication, and testing
  • Experience designing for and working around very high voltage (>1,000 V)
  • Experience working with power electronic devices and high power components
  • Working knowledge of fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures of electromagnetic systems
  • Familiarity with current computer applications and technologies in electrical engineering
  • Ability to solve highly complex technical design and development problems that require a professional level of engineering knowledge
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with internal customers to solve moderately complex technical problems
  • Ability to work in a multi-disciple team environment
  • Ability to create detailed test requirements, test plans, and test reports
  • Ability to set up electrical laboratory tests and to execute tests according to test plans
  • Ability to troubleshoot electrical circuits and diagnose/solve problems
  • Ability to create schematics, assembly drawings, and parts lists
  • Working knowledge of OrCAD and Visio
  • Ability to perform circuit simulation (PSpice or LTspice)
  • Familiarity with design for components in a high EMI environment
  • Proficiency in use of electronic test equipment including oscilloscopes, impedance bridges, function generators
  • Experience supervising junior engineers and technicians
  • Eligibility for US DOD Secret clearance
Preferred Skills and Education
  • Experience designing and testing large capacity capacitor based pulsed power systems
  • Familiarity with relevant military and commercial design standards
  • Familiarity with high power batteries and battery management systems
  • Familiarity with MATLAB, Simulink, PSpice, LabVIEW
  • Familiarity with computer programming languages, e.g. C, C#, LabWindows/CVI
  • Knowledge of electronic test equipment and test techniques for digital and mixed technology products
